That is laughable? Well I'm rolling on the floor since in the sunspot peak
in the 1958-63 period signals from Japan were heard in Darwin. Frequency?
144 mHz. I don't know what the power used was but on 144 mHz it would not
have been high. Rolo VK6BO worked from Perth to Adelaide on 144 mHz, and
that was in the 1950s - distance 2708 km and others have done it since. I
think the world record still stands for a contact between W and KH6 some
years ago on 144 and that would have been measured in miles. You tell nme
how far.
I hold the current long distance record for both 144 and 432 mHz mobile
working between me in Albany West Australia and VK3KLJ/M in Victoria.
Distance? Distance 2224km with a mobile on a few watts.
Wally VK6WG and Wally VK6KZ have worked into our Eastern States from West
Australia on much higher frequencies than 432 mHz, well into the gigaHerz
spectrum. I also held for many years the West Australian long distance
record for 50 mHz at over 5000 miles into Japan. That has been broken long
ago and the distance now would be getting up round the 10000 mile mark I
would think. I'm too lazy to look it up Warren. You can do that yourself..
OK, the 144 and upwards contacts are not for 5000 miles though the Darwin
contact would be getting close. Never laugh at any claim on VHF or UHF
working until you can prove it was wrong, Warren. But then your activities
seem to be mostly on packet and then mostly confined to picking holes in
the statements of others.
I await your reply with bated breath!
Bob VK6BE.
