The Sporadic E season in July in the USA was
The best ever and the exclusive club of working
Sporadic E on 222 MHz has doubled. So we where
hoping for a something similar event in Dec Jan
2004-5 season. To worked Australia from here in
Christchurch we have to get a signal over a
mountain range 2500 m high and 75 KM wide, so
Sporadic E is the only way. We have had severe
withdrawal symptoms as nothing has been worked
to VK on 2m since 1999.

Since the 1960s many services have
popped up and can now be monitored with a cheep
scanner such as ch5a TV, FM broadcast stations
and the pagers. Operators can now easy monitor
the rise in MUF .Mike ZL3MF has this down to a
fine art. There is a small band of keen
operators that listen on 144.100 when the
MUF is high. The stations that have been worked
from Christchurch on 2m are VK1,2,3,4,5,7 and
a ZL3 was heard by VK6 in Esperance.
