South Africa, ZS. Hal ZS6WB, writes; Hi Matt. Several of the ZS opera-
tors who are using WSJT (both FSK441 and JT44) would like to run some
tests on paths that are normally difficult or impossible for us to
work. I wonder if you could include this request for schedules in your
newsletter. Thanks very much. (Hereby done de E.d. OZ6OM)
Though Cycle 23 has been good to European operators, most of us in ZS
have had relatively little really good DX when compared to Cycle 22.
The two new new WSJT modes have opened up a lot of interesting possibi-
lities and we would be interested in conducting some tests over some of
the more unusual paths. A few examples are these; (1) ZS6 to northern
Europe (GM, LA, SM, OH) with FSK441 using TE openings to the Mediter-
ranean area coupled by MS to the north. (2) BS JT44 contacts to the
east and west when both stations have openings to Europe. ZS has al-
ready been copied last week in ZD8 using this method. No big deal for
many Europeans but ZD8 was last worked in ZS6 in April of 1989. South
America is also a strong possibility for BS as well as VQ9, 8Q7 etc.
to the east. (3) JA by meteor scatter. Recently there have been a num-
ber of openings where JA has been working FR, S79, etc. and the band
has not opened as far as ZS. However, we hear meteor bursts of the JA
TV video during these openings. Quite likely FSK441 would allow MS over
the first part of the path coupled into the JA-FR openings. I would be
interested in hearing from anyone this is WSJT equipped that would like
to try some of these more unusual paths to areas we have not already
worked many times before. Anyone interested can e-mail me at
zs6wb@telkomsa.net and I will pass info along to other interested par-
ties down here. Hal ZS6WB
