N5VLZ:

GE All, and welcome to the April 20 2026 PCL Net.

Early checkin for Scott, K0WAV (short time). He
said the WIRES-X repeater for the club is working
great, and well received by members.

Net order is Daryl, Carl, Bob (NY), and whoever
else may show up.

I just realized that I likely had the date wrong
at the top of the scribe...cleaning the reading
glasses doesn't seem to do much good, even though
I just bought several more pairs from Amazon, as
the last pair I was using, broke...and I need the
readers for either computer or smartphone work,
or when reading documents.

It looks like our tornado season really gets going
later this week. I hope it's not similar to what
occurred from Missouri northward into Michigan last
Friday. Reed Timmer got caught in a tornado (the
one that hit Lina, Illinois), and it ripped the
anemometer off his "storm chasing tank", and pushed
it off the road. We look to have a severe weather
threat here for several days, and while we could use
the rain, we can do without severe storms.

I ordered a portable folding table from Amazon that
should arrive after I get back from the podiatrist
on Wednesday. I'll use it for exam session items for
the candidates. I also bought an additional case for
exam items from ARRL/VEC. With my group doing its
last session before the Technician Class Question
Pools change on July 1, we look to be busy on May
2. I've picked up a couple of new VE's for my team,
and their help is appreciated. I have to print out
some new exam books, and will try to do that this
week.

I found a new sweet treat...Oreo lemon sandwich
cookies. That and the original flavor are really
good. To me, a meal isn't complete without some
form of a dessert (stressed spelled backwards is
desserts (hi hi)). I plan to do a bunch of eating
when I go to hamfests in Shreveport, Louisiana...
Mena, Arkansas...and Huntsville, Alabama this summer.
I get my A1C checked by my PCP next month, plus have
appointments with my podiatrist on Wednesday...then
with my eye doctor and with my cardiologist in June,
plus the urologist in July...it never ends (sigh!).

I'll purchase new batteries for my UPS units next
month, that are compatible with the units, but they
are much cheaper than buying a whole new unit, or
the replacement APC wants me to buy. I also plan
to have Terminix do the work on an issue under the
house, but I also need to set aside funds for the
Huntsville Hamfest trip that's 4 months away. Too
bad with the Canon MG-3600 printer, I have to
purchase the brand name ink cartridges (much more
expensive), but the generic ones aren't recognized
by the software or the printer.

Next Monday marks 19 years since I lost my XYL. While
the hobbies help ease the sting of loneliness, it
never goes away. Our anniversary usually fell on
Hamvention Weekend, but there's no way I could ever
afford to go. At least I have all the wonderful
memories that no one can take away...but many days,
it seems like yesterday.

GE Bob (OK), you'll be after Bob (NY).

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

KX4AC:

GE All. Daryl, good luck with the storms and doctors
appointments. I have my annual checkup on Wednesday,
and I spent a stupid amount of time yesterday wading
through all the online forms they now demand before
each appointment. I actually remember when doctors
would come to your house! Good luck with that ever
happening again :-(

I feel for you with the printer cartridges too. My
XYL is a real estate agent and always printing flyers.
We finally got one of those "smart tank" printers that
take ink straight from bottles. I swear it has already
paid for itself.

We are still waiting for fiber Internet. There have been
workmen swarming on the streets all week, so maybe we
are getting close.

Still playing HAMWORD, not much to add to that.

I just got my "SideKar" from QRPworks. I am curious as
to whether it can actually decode CW worth anything, but
even if it can't, it will be a nice add on for digtal
modes with my Yaesu 857d.

I guess that's about it for today. Back to net >>>

N5VLZ:

Carl, been there, done that, on the forms. I no longer
print out a 30 page medlist, but have several smartphone
apps with the data. I think Epson has a "bottle printer"...
and a fellow ham brought over a combo printer and fax
machine that I can set up if this one quits.

I never got started with HamWord...good luck with the
SideKar deal.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:

GE All!

A busy week! Racing season finally started in upstate NY -
so I was down at Watkins Glen, flagging the Mass Tuning guys
on Saturday. It was a nice day, 70s & windy.

Yesterday was not good. Started out with snow - fortunately,
I wasn't flagging. Yesterday was my birthday, so I was home!

Still pondering my next Hamword guess. It has got me stumped
for now.

HF persists at being useless.

Still tinkering with Meshtastic - unfortunately that's what
I think of it - just something to tinker with.

Our original flurry of activity with AREDN has ground to a
halt. The line of sight restriction will take just about
everyone out of play, as we don't have an installation sight
high enough.

That's all for me. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob (NY), first off, happy belated birthday.

Second, FB with the flagging.

As noted, I never got started with HamWord, and I agree with HF
being lousy. Even with remotehams.com using the KA8UGB remote in
Michigan, it was still noisy...but a station in Colorado and in
Texas were booming in here!! Bummer with the AREDN deal.

GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>

**

KF5TVG:

GE Daryl and all on the net!

I'm hoping the battery in my keyboard will hold long enough for
me to respond.

Bob (NY) hope you had a great birthday!

Daryl, sorry to hear the sad anniversary of losing your xyl. Gotta
be tough on you.

However, your new dessert sounds great. Whenever anyone mentions
dessert, I immediately think of my Dad. After lunch and dinner,
he would always want dessert and would ask "What's for last?"

re Hamword: I try to do that on Wednesdays, along with winlink
Wednesday, the Great Lakes and the Tulsa ARES winlink nets.

That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>

N5VLZ:

Sorry for the delay. Dry corneas kicked in, and had to put some
eye drops in. I saw several brands of eye drops were recalled,
but at least mine wasn't one of them. Every time you turn around,
there is a recall.

The Society Of Prevention Of Cruelty To Keyboards has me on their
top most wanted list...as I keep typing the letters off the keys
(hi hi). But, mine are USB powered. Being a BBS Sysop made me a
touch typist, as I never took a typing course.

I'll probably snag some of those after the net tonight...makes a
good snack.

That's it for round 1, back to the top for final comments.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Nothing more from this end. 73s to all. >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Have a good week, Carl...see you next time.

Bob (NY) thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

Nothing more here - thanks for running the net Daryl - everyone
have a good week - 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

73, Bob..see you next week.

Bob (OK), you get to wrap it up...anything else?? >>>

**

KF5TVG:

nothin else >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob (OK)...thought your keyboard had
crapped out!!

That'll do it for tonight's net. Stay safe, healthy, weather
aware, and radio-active, and I'll post the scribe shortly.

73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
