N5VLZ:
GE All, and welcome to the March 2 2026 PCL Net.
No early checkins.
Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Jeremy, Carl, Rick,
Glenn, Charley, Alex, Carlo, Wayne, and whoever
else shows up.
The Time Change to Spring Forward is at 2am local
time on Sunday. Set your clocks, watches, and any
other items that don't spring forward automatically
forward 1 hour before you go to bed Saturday night.
Otherwise, you'll be an hour late to church, work,
school, appointments, meetings, and ham radio nets.
If you observe the time change, most of the net
times won't change, but UTC Times will be 1 hour
earlier, and with nets on UTC Time, your checkin
time will be 1 hour later.
Good news and bad news. First, the good news.
I was able to book the Huntsville Hamfest bus
trip plus
hotel accommodations last Friday. While the total
cost was just over $500 (including the travel
insurance), the room and bus transportation are
both paid for; and I can save money for my food
and rideshare Lyft Transportation (I have to go
to Bryant, 15 miles to my southwest to catch the
bus, as there's no longer a stop in Little Rock).
The last time that I had an extended out of state
trip was to the Huntsville Hamfest back in 2017.
The bad news, is that our tornado season is now
here; and that means evening and overnight duty
with Arkansas Skywarn. My sleep schedule is all
messed up anyway...I guess that's setting me up
for "the night shift" (hi hi). We have risks of
both severe weather and flooding rain at least
into mid-March, but the rain is much needed to
lower the fire danger and burn bans, to get some
moisture for the farmers for spring planting,
and to ease drought conditions. However, another
cold blast may show up by the Ides Of March, so
it won't be good for the gardeners...it surely
wasn't good for Julius Caesar (hi hi).
It was a lot of work, but I got a square dance
related publication out last night...now, I have
a break from that for a couple of weeks. I'm
still waiting on the new issue of the QCWA
Journal, so that I can start the audio transcript
preparation...but I will be dodging thunderstorms,
as noted earlier. I also am going to the Arkansas
River Valley Amateur Radio Foundation Hamfest on
Saturday...the week will be stormy and soggy...
I'm glad I'm not doing the driving.
GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>
NS2B:
GE All!
An uneventful week. Still cold, but warming up
just enough during the days to start melting snow
now!
Got Hamword on the 2nd try today!
Still tinkering with the Meshtastic contraption.
It has potential, but without some coordination,
it becomes nothing more than a curiosity.
Fortunately, there's a group here in town trying
to "herd the cats", so there's hope!
In the DMR world people get caught up wanting to
load the entire Radio ID database into their radio's.
I consider that a bit of overkill, as you're loading
a DB of nearly 300k IDs when maybe a thousand of
those people are the talkers. So I've written a script
that runs on my Pistar hotspot that's collecting the
calls that it hears. I figure after a week of that,
I'll have a more compact list of IDs I need to load
into my radio. It's something to do! ....
BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:
Bob (NY), FB on the melting snow, Hamword, and the
Meshtastic things. To herd cats, you just put a bunch
of Amazon boxes on the floor (hi hi). As for the DMR
frequencies, it's better just to get a few select ones,
as otherwise, you don't have room for all of them. I
have to refresh the data fields when I load the BlueDV
program.
GE Jeremy, welcome to the net. We're here most Monday
evenings, except during the weeks of Easter, Memorial
Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving,
Christmas and New Years. Just type >>> when you're done,
to turn it back to me.
**
N1ZZZ:
GE Daryl and the net. QTH here is Pringle, PA in the NE
part of the state. Thank you for the welcome. I found
the net on VARAC and have enjoyed packet over the years.
I am using telnet since there is no node in my area
unfortunately.
Wx has been warming up and the snow is mostly gone, but
we are expecting more. I will keep this short. Thanks
for having me. BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Jeremy, glad to have you. I'm using telnet, as I'm in
central Arkansas...too far away to connect via RF. FB
on the melting snow...we're into our tornado season.
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All and welcome Jeremy.
Not much going on here this week. I spent a bunch of
time collecting and uploading tax documents for my
meeting with HR Block today. Looks like I calculated
OK and won't owe anything, so that's good.
I got a bunch of new Chemicon Caps from Digikey over
the weekend, so I will be working on repairing some
old Heathkit test equipment with bad caps. That's
about it for me. >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Carl, FB on the taxes deal. I don't have to pay any
property taxes this year, and I don't get enough in
disability to file taxes.
GL on repairing the Heathkit test equipment.
GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
GE Daryl and all on NET!
Nothing exciting to report.
Just looking after the wife, and doing my usual 40M
and 20M PACTOR, calling a couple of 2M FM NETS, and
reading a lot... project wise, I've been configuring
and testing a couple of KPC3+ TNCs for APRS
digipeater operation. Waiting to see how Bob makes
out with his Hamtastic project...
Well, that's about it, so BTU Daryl >>>
**
Rick, GL on the testing of the KPC3 TNC's -- I don't
know if those are made any more, since MFJ shut down
last year.
GE Glenn, how was your week?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
Evening everyone.
Finally the snow is melting here and looking forward
to spring.
Made some progress with IP400 nodes, got the both
working with Qttermtcp on two windows Laptops using
kiss, they rock! Was going to add one to my BPQ
system but came to find out the Nucleo Boards are
not flashed for Linux.
That's about it from here Daryl BTU >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Glenn, FB on the IP400 nodes. It has gotten near 80 in
the region.
I probably should've gotten the 2 stations from Italy
first, since it's nearly 4am local time there...but
they will be logged.
GE Wayne, welcome to the net. We're here most Mondays
except the weeks of Easter, Memorial Day, Independence
Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
When done, type >>> to turn it back to me. >>>
**
KC2NJV:
hi just put up a linbpq system and found out about the
net.
Glenn you find the issue on the web site?
**
N5VLZ:
Wayne, thanks for being here. Charley, glad you made it
back...over to you >>>
**
NT5R:
DMR net going on same time so got distracted
Rick FB on the KPC3plus, recently set one up as APRS
fill-in digipeater. Working well. We lost our good
location at 200 up a tower for MOBRA node. So now
looking for locations for that and also the fill-in
digi. 200 feet up tower WAS MOBRA Branson node
If KPC3plus has 9.1 firmware or newer works well as
digi
Carl FB on your repair jobs. Interesting seeing new
calls on here. Hope they can return. BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Charley, too many nets, too many modes, too much
confusion, too many at the same time, too little
time to checkin to them, and too few wanting to
be Net Control.
Bummer on the loss of the MOBRA node.
That will do it for round 1...a busy net tonight.
Back to the top for final comments.
Bob (NY), thanks for the use of the BBS...anything
else?? >>>
**
NS2B:
nothing more here - everyone have a good week -
73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Take care, Bob..see you next time.
Jeremy, anything else?? >>>
**
N1ZZZ:
Not much. Thanks for having me, and I am enjoying
reading the mail. Glad to know there are some
Pactor and Packet operators still out in the wild.
I am going on a ship next week so hope to work some
HF digital modes as we travel down the west coast,
through the canal and into the gulf. I am bringing
my radio so lets hope it all works out. I'll be
busy next week, but will try to make the net. >>>
**
N5VLZ:
You can check in via email to ns2b@arrl.net or
n5vlz@arrl.net if you can't get in, and we'll
grant you a proxy checkin. Have a safe trip.
Carl, anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
Nothing more from Arizona. 73s to all >>>
**
N5VLZ:
73 Carl...see you next week.
Rick, anything else?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
Thanks Charley NT5R, my KPC3+ units also have
9.1 firmware. We'll see how they work out in
the field.
OK, that's all I have for this week. Thanks to
Bob for the use of the BBS for the NET!
Everyone have a great week, stay well, 73 until
next time. BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Rick, keep us posted on those KPC3+ units. Thanks
for being here.
Glenn, anything else?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
No more for this week. Wayne site checked out fine
however one of the linked sites had an expired
certificate. Should be good now. 73 GN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
73 Glenn...I've run into those expired certificate
sites as well. Thanks for being here.
Charley, you get to put the ribbons on it tonight.
I believe OzarkCon is Easter Weekend next month, but
I won't be able to make it.
**
NT5R:
OK Jeremy, my gal and I did the Panama Canal cruise
couple years ago. From Florida thru the canal to
California. Hope radio plans work ok on cruise.
Bob's 14.105 node I can get in to sometimes during
day with 10 watts and end fed 40 meter antenna
Everyone have an awesome week. Type at you again
soon. 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Take care, Charley. My late parents did a Panama
Canal Cruise 40 years ago.
That will do it for tonight's net. I'll prepare the
scribe tomorrow, as I have another net to prepare for
this evening.
73, and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
