N5VLZ:

Our next net holiday is on Monday, June 30,
as the July 4 holiday is on Friday this year.
The PCL Net will be off that night.

We have had rain/thunderstorms around, but
we missed the tornadoes, very large hail,
100 mph winds, and widespread power outages
that hit much of Texas last night. There were
storms south of Little Rock today, and it
looks like dry weather through midweek; then
storms return Thursday into early next week.

I had to run the QCWA Sunflower Net on my
smartphone last Saturday, with warnings for
severe thunderstorms and flash flooding in
my area during the net, plus a tornado watch.
My NOAA Weather Radio alarm was going off
during the net, and my lightning app looked
like it had a severe case of the measles!!
No one had signed up for the license exam
session last Saturday, so it was canceled,
and with the bad weather, I was glad for
the cancellation.

I went to the podiatrist this morning for
a much needed toenail trim. Transportation
and finance issues delayed it until now...
but my feet feel much better. I see my eye
doctor on Wednesday...no pun intended. I
ran out of glucose test strips, but the new
order won't arrive until next Monday. At
least I got more alcohol swabs late today. I
see my PCP for an A1C check on June 23, my
cardiologist on June 25, then my urologist on
July 8. I still have to do a yearly wellness
exam and flu shot in October.

I had forgotten about this video clip that
went viral on YouTube in 2011...search for
"Cat Vs Gator". That kitty had no fear!!

Happy early Father's Day to the Dads...hope
you get more than a necktie (hi hi).

GE Bob, how was your week?? >>>

**

NS2B:

GE All!

This week flew by.

Had a thunderstorm roll through here earlier.
Just rain now. Flood watch for the rest of
the night.

Was down at the track Saturday flagging for
the Porsche Clash event. It probably should
have been called the Porsche Crash! They
worked or otherwise messed up about a dozen
cars over the weekend.

Not much new in the radio world. Dug out the
pieces to my portable 40m dipole. I think
I'll try to setup a portable station on 40m
for field day.

We'll see if my schedule allows for it! hihi

That's all for me. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, the map at weather.gov looked like someone
went nuts with the paint palatte, for all of
the watches, warnings, and advisories. On the
races, sounds like there were more red and
yellow flags than green ones!! The only things
I'll do for Field Day is running or helping
with nets.

GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on NET.

Last week was busy... I think I mentioned that
we were driving to Kelowna for a consultation
with an orthopedic surgeon for Arlene's knee
replacement, we did that... 8 hours driving...

We got a phone call on Thursday, advising that
she will be going in for knee replacement surgery
on July 28. So, another trip to Kelowna, and we
will have to find a hotel for three nights, at
high season, around $300 a night... and of course
drive home on really bumpy roads...

And then the fun begins...

On the radio front, it has been really quiet on
40M and 20M PACTOR, as in NOTHING heard lately.

Temp hear at the moment is around 100F, so I'm
staying indoors where it's nice and cool.

OK, that's about it for me, so BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Rick, glad Arlene scheduled the surgery, but
bummer on the long drive, and lodging prices.
That recent CME really messed up HF. It's 86
here, but I have the air conditioning on.

GE Rosti...how was your week?? >>>

**

KC3FQF:

GE Daryl and all on PACNET

tu Glenn for let me use your node tonight

Being very busy week at work and WX was crap
after work so no POTA after work for me last
week

This weekend, I drove to Pittsburgh PA to see
family and WX was rain the whole way but i
played too much radio on the way

Always disapointing APRS usage of most hams,
but that's the way it has been for years. Used
APRS and talked to people i could find on the
way, and repeaters that beacon their freq.

In Pittsburgh, had a few CW portable QSOs, and
drove back Sunday

KC3FQF : Thats all >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Rosti, bummer on the weather, but at least you
got to play radio. I have APRSDroid on my Android
phone, but have rarely used it...I'd like to get
back into it.

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

GE All on the net.

Well, been a bit busy this last week. The house
painting starts probably tomorrow. Got a roofer
lined up to start the end of June. Got a bunch
of new plants and flowers planted in the back
yard, which caused me to have to fix the
landscape watering system. Just got that working
again today.

Quarterly taxes are coming up, so that's always
fun. And I have a stress test and a couple of
scans coming up on Friday. Actually, it is
probably more accurate to say I am living the
stress test and will have a nice walk on Friday
:-)

Not much on the radio front. As far as APRS
goes, I have used it ... even sent a message
to a friend in Florida during a day trip a
while back. The problem is that switching APRS
on and off is a huge rigamaroll with menus. So,
I can't easily (like one button) switch from
APRS to repeater ops, so I find APRS very
un-useable.

Bob ... I will send my weather scripts to you.
I just keep getting distracted :-)

Oh, and now one of the cats if feeling badly
and crying at night. Got her to the vet today
and she apparently has an ear infection. Got
some medicine, and will take her back in a
couple of weeks to see how it is going.

I think that's about it. Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, first bummer on the feline's health...
hope the kitty can get better soon. FB on the
landscaping and house stuff. Thanks for the
info on APRS. Remember, STRESSED spelled
backwards is DESSERTS. :-)

GE Glenn...how was your week?? >>>

**

N3MEL:

GE everyone!

Rosti, no problem using the node, glad it is
working for you..

Not much new here still very wet here in the
east, and frankly I am tired of it hihi.

Getting ready to send out the instructions
for the June PKTNET early next week, and other
radio stuff, I updated my Allstar nodes to
ASL3 and added SkywarnPlus they are working
well.

I also added Puchover as well so if the is any
weather alerts from SkywarnPlus they are sent
to my iPhone from Allstar. Also have any warnings
auto populating into a text file that then
beacons every 30 mins on my packet VHF freq.

I think that is it for now, btu Daryl>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Glenn, the folks in Canada would love some of
that rain to quell the wildfires. FB on the
packet, AllStar, and Skywarn Stuff. I lost the
contact info for them, as I had applied under
a former callsign. I don't have the means to
get into AllStar right now, mainly due to cost.
Tim, K5TEL, a blind ham, would like to get the
Skywarn info relayed to him.

GE Charley, I have a question for you. I know
that you travel a lot, but what telnet app do
you use on your smartphone?? You can comment on
that, and let us know how your week was. >>>

NT5R:

ge everyone, lost track of time. Nearly missed
you all

Just now looking at phone, Android app sometimes
us TCP Telnet, couple others on Play Store

Do a search for Telnet ham radio or something
similar. Works of in a pinch but not as good as
real keyboard. Also Bob has web page access
sometimes use

Re APRS several of us in this area active on
APRS. We going to put up a fill-in APRS
digipeater. My spare KAM ver 6.0 no work for
APRS but KAM+ at our Branson node will work
so gonna commission that for APRS and use
spare for packet. Another fellow has radio
to donate for the cause

Weather here 83.8 f today 35% humidity, about
perfect imho. Two days of sunshine, nice

Glenn interesting re your node sending WX
beacon to packet

btu Daryl>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Charley, thanks for the info. I'll check those
later tonight or after I get back from the PO
Box Tuesday. I have an MFJ 1270C TNC, with the
USB-RS232C cable, and power supply, but no rig
or rig cable.

I will check out some of those other programs.

GE Scott, glad you made it back. How was your
week?? >>>

**

K0WAV:

GE Daryl and the Net... well finally a couple
straight days without rain. I may be to catch
up on land clearing and mowing, my upper field
has offically dried out enough to be a swamp
vs an inland sea.

APRS - I used a Mini PC I got for just over 100
on Amazon to run a windows program called
APRSIS32 which is free, have it as a fill-in digi
with Igate.

My Winlink server is still on hold I have never
heard back from Winlink.Org after I "applied"
to be a server, so if anyone has tips on how
to write a convincing application email for a
winlink server email me at k0wav@arrl.net

The ClearNode from Node-Ventures is what I use
for Allstarlink and "hot-spot". It is by far
the easy solution but I would not call it less
expensive at 350ish :)

They have some on models and devices now so
maybe something else to look at.

It is not for the enthusiast, since a lot of
that price is for the companion smartphone app
and the support, if you like to tinker problably
go with something else

Bummer on the sick kitty, my feline also had
the issue with ear infections, Vet said it was
the higher humidity of AR vs CO that gave the
cat the issues, but who knows, cats are well,
cats.

Just a bit of radio stuff on 6m and a bit of
FT8, I am waiting for more to dry out, so I can
get some antenna up for packet/aprs/winlink.

Thats it for me BTU >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Scott, I wish they'd move the decimal point to
the left a notch or two (hi hi). I use the RMS
Express program for my Winlink stuff, but rarely
see any email there. I will check that APRSIS32
out.

That's it for round 1. Back to the top for final
comments.

Bob, thanks for being here, and for the use of
the BBS. Anything else for us?? >>>

**

NS2B:

For APRS I use a Windows program called Pinpoint
APRS - works pretty good - it was simple to
setup.

Nothing more here - everyone have a good week
- 73 >>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, thanks for being here.

Rick, how are the wildfires?? Anything else for
us?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

I haven't been tracking the wildfires lately,
they are far north of us, but that could change...

I guess that's it for me. Everyone have a great
week, stay well, 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Rick, I hope the fires stay away from you. Thanks
for being here.

Rosti checked out, so it's on to Carl.

Anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Not anything else from me except to say great
turnout tonight! 73s all around

Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, thanks for being here.

Glenn, anything else for us?? >>>

**

N3MEL:

Sorry for the typos tonight, using my ipad and
I hate the keyboard.

Have a great week to everyone 73 CUL...

**

Glenn, the Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty
To Keyboards has me on their "10 most wanted
list" (hi hi). I too, have "fat finger syndrome",
but without fat fingers, how do you pick up the
food, and the silverware?? (hi hi). Thanks for
being here.

**

N5VLZ:

Charley, thanks for the pointers. Anything else
for us?? >>>

**

NT5R:

Everyone have an awesome week. Always fun to
type at ya! 73>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Charley, thanks for being here.

Scott, you get to wrap it up tonight. Anything
else for us?? >>>

**

K0WAV:

APRSIS32 works on W11 I have had no issue to
date. Thats it 73 y'all. BTU >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Scott, thanks for being here. I will check it
out.

That'll do it for the June 9 2025 PCL Net. I
will post the scribe either after I finish
another net in a bit, or sometime Tuesday.

Everyone stay, safe, healthy, weather aware,
and radio active. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ. >>>
