Do you really expect anything but complaints from certain UK hams? You
must be joking! Considering all the trash remarks about far more than
equipment I have serious doubts about their operating practices and
knowledge about the hardware behind them appears to be nonexistant.

"...those guys had some trouble with a specific brand at one time..."
and looked no farther for a solution. Whingers par excelance, technicians
nada. Anyone with a lick of sense would check to see if he got a "lemon"
or better yet, did some intelligent shopping in the first place. Oh,
don't forget to check out the comany's service reputation, you can't
repair today's rigs yourself. (;->)

"...provide the community with bug fixes and work-arounds!"

Like I said above, don't expect to fix it yourself. The best work-around
is work another rig if you discover problems with a certain product line.
Now that's very specific, even the best companies sometimes produce a bad
line, that's not to say EVERY line is bad. Speaking of Yeasu, my own
personal whinger called on the phone the other day complaining about a
particular model with a lousy receive section. Par for the course he
didn't do his homework and bought a lemon. One can only be diplomatic up
to a point, my final remark was "well, you live and learn". (;->)

"A commercial product cannot be flawless and cheap at the same time."

Now that's as wrong as wrong can be! Remember that comment about
intelligent shopping? I'm anything but rich so I can't afford the top of
the line most expensive equipment, I pinch pennies 'till they bleed and
sell the blood to the local blood bank. Then I take the proceeds to my
favorite dealer and trade them for something I need AFTER doing my
homework. I hate to brag so I won't, the simple truth is I never had
anything fail under normal operating conditions and a rig never failed to
perform satisfactorally considering it's particular class. Am I smarter
than the average bear Boo Boo? Nah, if I can do it anyone can, all it
takes is RESEARCH.

One last thing, my research has turned up several "off-brands" that are
excellent performers and they're "cheap" too. I'll give you all a clue,
Icom and Yeasu just to name two have second lines under a different name.
A Ford by any other name just might be a Jaguar. (;->)
