Subject: It's that time of year again.

Well it seems to be that time of year again when one reflects upon the year's
acheivements and extend our greetings and wishes to those that matter.

Personally I've had quite a bumper year as far as amateur radio is concerned.

Being on air and dx'ing has been good and I've enjoyed success with the
homebrew projects I tackled.

But more importantly it's been the new friendships made and the strenghthening
of existing one's that has made my hobby of radio so worthwhile.

[You know who you are!]

And packet radio has had a major part in this.

I've enjoyed the superb facilities of the G1NNA/NNB systems earlier this year
when Kent still had an RF link. Those of G4APL and G0SYR contine to be used
by myself, and latterly those of Paula G8PZT, who has rescued me from the
RF vacuum.

I am still astounded by the determination of those keeping the RF links alive,
especially so when considering that the whole hobby in the last 10/15yrs has
suffered massive dropout and stagnation.

Somehow we still seem to be here, and there must be something about our
group of disparate souls that keeps telling us to stick together, even if
it's not via radio.

Just think, 90% of us could be exchanging the very same content plus more
via nothing more than something like a Yahoo group, and yet we doggedly
stick to "our system", for reasons that even the best of us fail to explain.

2007, at least for UK radio amateurs looks to be a milestone year.

It will be our first proper year of radio deregulation (and about b****y time
too!). We can now enjoy a massive 15 uk pounds saving by having a free
licence.

We have deregulated CB, which I suspect will at last start to be used as
planned 25 years ago, as a simple radio system for anyone to usefor non
important traffic.

We have, in the UK started to see *real* change in the way radio is regulated.

In the past it has been run by complete fascists, and unduly influenced by
business economics and a bunch of backward prats called the RSGB.

So 2007 could well be amateur radio's new "year zero" in the UK, and judging
by international event's, could be for other countries too.

As such it is now the best time for us all to think about what we personally
want to acheive in this hobby, as well as plan both our future, which will
need to account for both the old and the new.

It means making sure our contribution is made, and our influence felt.

Make sure you do your bit, lead when the rest are weak, follow when
appropriate.

I sincerely wish all of you good health and prosperity, and both strength and
compassion in times of your need and others.
