Hi

Before people start jumping up and down and complaining
about adverts, this is sent by myself as a satisfied user of the
program Xarpm, The Author of the software Ian G6VEY has
nothing to do with my sending this message out, apart from
the fact that he has provided and excellent FREE Program for
Linux Packet users.

So if anyone wants to scream and shout about it please dont bother Ian, address your rants to me and I will happily ignore them !

For those of you using Linux to access the Packet Network, Here is some Information about Xarpm Packet Software by G6VEY

As with most Linux Programs that are available, the Software is FREE ! No registration fees to pay / No Nag screens to get you to register, Just great software thats easy to use.

I have been using this since the first version and have seen how
it has progressed up to this latest version.

its well written, runs well without crashing, does the Job its supposed to do and is Easy to setup / configure (unlike some of the other linux packet software that I have tried)

Also the Author of the software Ian G6VEY is very keen to hear
from users of the software with suggestions about how it could
be improved / made easier to use / missing functions that you would like to see implemented in to the program, I requested quite a few things whilst I have been using this and every request was dealt with in a very prompt and courteous manor.

More importantly the features that I wanted were added very
quickly to the software and new versions were released as soon
as they had been done / tested.

I have tried all ways to break this program in normal use and so far it has been bullet proof and just keeps on doing what its
supposed to do..

all in all an excellent Linux based Packet Program that more Linux users should give a try!

In the past I used to run the Linux pc with SuSe Linux installed, with that I used to run VMWARE and Win98 / Winpack to access the packet network, Xarpm has done away with the
need to run Vmware and Win98 / Winpack on the linux pc..

Xarpm does the job perfectly....

Information

Xarpm or X-Amateur Radio Packet Mailbox is a Linux GUI mail client for radio amateurs to collect and send their mail via Packet Radio BBS`s. It will allow connection via TCPIP over Internet or LAN and AX25/Netrom using a Pre-configured Linux AX25 kernel modules. Xarpm has been tried with several different versions of FBB, PZTBBS, NNA and Simple PMS`s.

At present there is no support for NOS systems although I do intend to add support if demand requests it.

TCPIP Connection is direct peer to peer on a given IP port number. Login and Password are sent over the connection and Xarpm uses the returned prompt to sync its transfer engine against.

At present all Transfers are handled in plain text format.

FBB forwarding and Compressed modes will be added as the
Project matures.

AX25/Netrom connection can only be achieved if the Linux system has been pre-configured for use with AX25 and or Netrom.

Xarpm simply pipes a connection through to your own configured node and leaves The Linux system to handle AX25 traffic using the node as a connection hub.
