and very nice for you too - I know of none in the whole
of this town with that service and quite possible the
whole of the county.

Many claims get made - I would think that anyone with an
ounce of common sense and didn't only watch daytime tv
for advice on life would realise that the "wireless" bit in
wifi meant radio..

The "Open Zones" where thee sends thee messages from are very
nice and all that but what has that got to do with ham radio
except you might be communicating with others who need to have
the same access as yourself. Unless you like 'wardriving' to get
access?

Bit patronising that - 'linger on hf..' why shouldn't they
*People might say* you shouldn't be bothering with all that
callsign rubbish and just use a mobile phone!

They probably do it because, like Everest ...because it's
there. Why shouldn't they - its a free world - moving with times
might mean someone decided to make you pay big for your access
to Echolink one day and if you sold all your radios, you might need
the carrier pigeons.

There are people who use the free RF access on 0.137 - GHz
and pay a lot less than Internet access! This free internet
access you're referring to - where is it? what is it and is
it being used legally (to gain the free access).

People use a mixture of everything to pass the time in
an interesting way, I think "moving with the times" aint all
its cracked up to be to be honest! These days there's more of
a 'catch' than ever before.

In case you wonder
- I've got a HF set which I use for SSB, digimodes
- I've got a vhf/uhf set I use for local chatting (i live
in a valley with bggerall coverage)
- I've got APRS running 24/x7
- I've got packet running on 70cm & 2m 24x7
- I can access gb7max via packet and the net
I use the net a log and have wifffy link all around
the house - in to one pc by the HF set for rtty/psk etc.
- Im using a free Operating system (Linux Ubuntu) to send this
and free packet radio client XARPM and very good it is too!
- I have QTEL the free Linux Echolink software but haven't used it much

Its a hobby thats big enough for all - or it would have died ages
ago..

I'd say that all section of the hobby radio is valid and nothing should
be judged as lifes just not long enough to worry about it.
