Hi Mark and silent readers,
I'm not a bit surprised, 7.5Km is a short hop on microwave actually. I
don't suppose you guys have any obstructions or it would be another
matter entirely, especially in summer when "leaf scatter" becomes a
problem noticible even on 2M.
Mast mounted tranceivers is old hat but you have added a new twist, my
congratulations to the cat. I suppose it's not easy to climb a steel
tower, no bark to dig it's claws into. Probably is better than the
rabbit, can't hop high enough. (;->)
Speaking of mast mounted devices, I have all the bits needed to operate
an LPFM station here along the boardwalk. (Nice living in a seaside
resort town.) With a mast mounted 100mW FM stereo transmitter, computer
automated programming and a vast music library I'm all set except for one
thing, interest. Yeah, in the US an FCC Part 15 device can cover a fairly
good distance when mounted high enough, never saw any such restrictions
in the rules. the thing is I would be in direct competition with The Rat
(WRAT) the top rated NYC market area rock station whose tower I can see
out the rear window. (The transmitter is in South Belmar.) Anyway, my
radio DJ days are over, I had my fill running a pirate radio station in
the 60s with a bunch of friends, at least until the FCC said "Get a Ham
license." No joke, the field engineer at that time I quote is a well
known Ham living in North Jersey and I have come to know him rather well.
Like always, keep up the good work and eventually you may convince others
that there's more to Amateur microwave than hilltopping in some contest
or other.
