Hi Frank & Winpack lovers,
I guess you're right there, Rog really outdid himself developing Winpack even
if Telnet was an afterthought. Thought after realizing that the internet was
fast becoming the backbone of the network as radio links were fast
disappearing.
Now to the point, it's become apparent that Win 7 32 bit hasn't a problem
with Winpack, it seems to do well with other 16 bit programs too. The problem
is with the 64 bit version (like I have) that is a radical departure from
earlier Windows systems. That's why I have XP 32 bit on the Virtual Box to
run Winpack.
To bring up another point that has been broached, computer and systems
software technology has forged light years ahead of packet so unless software
developers take an interest it won't be long before this dinosaur becomes
extinct not having the ability to adapt to change. It looks like the
confluence of two mighty rivers is just around the bend, obsolecence and lack
of interest will finally put the last nail in the coffin. Oh well, packet has
had its day and AX25 isn't the only digital mode, seeing the dinosaur on it's
last legs the digital mammals are coming out of their holes, it's not the end
of the world just because one species goes extinct.
