Ok Bob re ur possible change to Win7. Mine is a Toshiba laptop with
32 bit. I don't know if it can be changed to 64 bit as they don't give you
a Win7 install disc. If they did one could with Win7 64 set it for XP
emulation and run Winpac.
However although in my case the Winpac install disc would not run, so
I did a full copy of a working Winpac off my XP computer and dropped it
onto the win7 hard disc.
It then ran ok for some weeks, but then it all went bad and although the
winpac now comes up on screen it won't work. So maybe one of those updates
killed it.
It is a pity about Outpost that I tried and found it has about a 200,
page install manual and is a highly complex program. But I did get it
running and had it downloading bulletins, not just the headers, but the
whole of each new bull and could not see anyway of stopping that.
So you might have seen it going mad downloading in full, every new bull
including that ridiculous 100 part 7+ .jpg. Even then I don't know
whether it has 7+ support like Winpac.
Winpac is fabulous and a pity someone has not come up with an
equivalent program for Win7. It is no encouragement to would be packet
users, if it won't run on the average laptop.
Even Win8 tablet/Iphone users have apps for Echo link etc and many use
those successfully. I work VK7OR every weekend, when he is mobile touring
VK7. He goes thru the internet to echolink node VK2bgl/repeater.
