Solved the problem! I 'stole' the USB mouse from my laptop, & replaced the
PS/2 mouse on the desktop with it. Now XP is performing normally!
And the Win2K laptop is quite 'happy' with the desktop's old PS/2 mouse, which
XP wasn't!
Either WinXP is more tolerant of USB mice and not of PS/2, or the PS/2 mouse
was faulty/incompatible. Talk about being 'touchy'!
