Victoria Police seeks assistance from the Amateur Community

Date : 24 / 04 / 2020
Author : Detective Senior Constable Justin Abbey

The following email was received today by Graham Kemp at the National News desk from Detective
Senior Constable Justin Abbey seeking assistance from the Amateur community - the email as follows ...

Good afternoon Graeme,

I sent you an email earlier this morning and also left you a voice message
re: the missing campers in Wonnangatta, Victoria. Missing person Russell
HILL was part of the amateur radio scene.

We are very keen for this story to be used during your national broadcast
on Sunday in the hope any of your listeners may be able to assist or have
any information that may be relevant.

This is the media release that was published on our
www.police.vic.gov.au<http://www.police.vic.gov.au> website on Wednesday
in relation to the missing campers
https://www.police.vic.gov.au/appeal-information-re-missing-wonnangatta-campers

And here are further details we have in relation to his radio:

* Call sign VK3VZP
* HF amateur radio
* 80 metre band
* 3.670 frequency
* Radio is an icom 706 Mark 2G - mounted in his vehicle
* He last had contact with some of his mates on 20/03/2020 at 1830 hours
* His routine re: the radio, is that every night he and 4 of his mates
would log on at 1800 hours to check in with each other
* His friends said he would bounce radio signals off aircraft vapour
trains to increase his radio signal

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We are very keen to have this
used on the national broadcast on Sunday.

Please give me a call on my mobile (any time - night, day, weekend) to
discuss 0408 851 309.

Thanks in advance,

Abbey JUSTIN | Detective Senior Constable 39056
Missing Persons Squad| Crime Command | Victoria Police
