Sometimes in agreement and sometime in disagreement. You can say just what
you like chum, whenever and whatever. If I think you're right I'll agree
with you. If I think you're wrong, I'll be blunt and forthright and say
you're wrong. If you think I'm wrong, you're welcome to say so. Just don't
hold your breath waiting for the opportunity, as I'm never, ever wrong.
Just sometimes mistaken :-)

Well I find I'm in agreement with both you and Pete.
We can't all be experts on everything (not even me !). So we all tend to
rely on others for help. However, some do this more than others.
Nothing annoys me more than seeing someone write on here "Does anyone know
where I can get an X?" and then have half a dozen websites and email
addresses listed in their signature. That strikes me as a form a
freeloading (and I use that word with the knowledge of what others may
write). Those requests come across to me as "I have internet access but
cant be bothered to do the "donkey work" of looking for the info, you do it
for me as I'm too lazy." In many cases people wont have even bothered to
attempt to find the info, in others they'll have tried and been unable to
locate it. Adding the line "I've tried half a dozen websearches and still
no luck." would encourage me to help them out. I don't get much free time
since changing job, I get paid for 7.5hrs/day and my company expect me to
do 10 :-( So helping people who've helped themselves 1st seems to me like a
better use of my time than helping those who can't do the basics for
themselves.
The case of the callbook is different. If you intend to interact with UK
hams then a reasonably up to date callbook is needed. Note those words
"reasonably up to date". I update mine about every 4-5 years. That's about
the period the info remains truly accurate. I don't consider it
unreasonable for every ham to have a callbook. You can buy them in rallies,
1 or 2 years old for 50p to a few pounds. So keeping reasonably up to date
is practicable for even the most impecunious of hams. Hell, even I'm being
a cheapskate by making my book last 5 years!

I thought Pete's reply a tadge harsh but it made me smile in anticipation
of the reaction it may receive! Mike asked nicely and I replied. As long as
he doesn't ask another callbook question for a few years I wont consider
him a freeloading cheapskate! :-)
