Hello all Grubby Ones.
I have seen a bulletin from Clyde, ZS1CS, asking for help in making some soap.
By chance, as I was looking for another book, I came across a chemistry book
which my son used about 40 years ago. In this I found a page with the title
'Soap and Soap Making'. This may help Clyde come clean, or set him up in a
nice little money laundry.
According to this book, you need potassium hydroxide, or sodium hydroxide,
and with some fat, boil it under steam pressure. I think that would be a
pretty ordinary kind of soap! Modern soaps would include extras such as
lanolin (from a sheep fleece and promoted to the ladies as good for wrinkles
...get 'em or keep 'em, I don't know) and then, added herbs and spices, with
a nice smell to make you think it's worth the high cost!
Not exactly Ham Radio, but a useful accessory. :-)
