Hi !
From WUN internet reflector (fm: Gerard CLOUET, F6GIZ)
for VLF'er, just for info:
OMEGA is an hyperbolic navigation system, used by both marine and aircraft.
There is 8 OMEGA transmitter in the world. They are labelled A to H.
A is in Norway (Stavanger)
B in Trinidad
C in Hawai
D in USA (South Dakota)
E in La Reunion
F in Argentina
G in Australia
H in Japan
Each station is transmitting on the same frequency in an order from A to H
The length of each transmission is from 0.9 to 1.2 second; the total frame from
A to H is 10 seconds,
The sequence is repeated each 10 second precisely.
Each transmitter is piloted by a Caesium frequency standard and the phase of
each transmitter is coherent with the International Atomic Time ( TAI ).
The OMEGA Navigator receive 2 or more transmitters, synchronise his own phase
with one of the received station, then measure the phase difference with the
other station received.
The phase difference beetween 2 stations give an hyperbola, then with 2 other
give another hyperbola.
The cross-point of the two hyperbola give the navigation solution.
The frequency used by A to H stations are 10.2, 11.3 and 13.6 KHz
(if you have a radio-piloted clock like the DCF77 in Europe, you will be allowed
to identify each transmitter by his position from second 0 to 10 !!!)
The Russian ALPHA is a "Clone" of Omega and is transmitting on 11.9, 12.6, 14.8
and 15.6 KHz.

Russian Omega variety, unofficial designation 'Alpha'.
Stations are Krasnodar (Black Sea), Komsomolsk na Amure (Pacific) and
Novisibirsk. The exact frequencies are 11.905, 12.649 and 14.881 kHz.
Transmitter power is 500 kW. The interval is 3.6 sec.
