Hello WUNners,
Fabrizio Magrone, Forli', Italy

here is an interesting info for VLF listeners. BTW, SAQ verifies reports
with an attractive QSL folder.
Good listening!

Subject: SPECIAL LONGWAVE BROADCAST SPECIAL

On October 23, the longwave station at Grinatol SWEDEN will make
a 30 minute broadcast of some interest. They only broadcast once a year.
The frequency is 17.2 kHz, way down in the Longwave region, but coverage
is world wide because of it.

What is interesting is that this station broadcasts without using
ANY valves or solid state devices...the frequency is generated by an
alternator like you have in your car, but thousands of times bigger.
Power to the aerial is in the hundreds of kilowatts range. (Think how the
alternator "whine" changes pitch as you revv up your engine..same
principle applies here).
