THE LOW-DOWN COLUMN
EXPERIMENTS ON 177.4 kHz
Steve Olney VK2ZTO has been running his 'Scientific licensed' station,
callsign AXSO, as a beacon on 177.4 kHz over the past few nights,
between 1330 and 1430 UTC
He's driving his transmitter into his "Cliff Hanger Antenna" (CHA),
a long wire slung down a 70 metre cliff overlooking a local river.
Steve's signal from these tests has been
picked up in Victoria by
Graeme VK3GJZ using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) digital signal
processing program, called Spectrogram.
For those intrigued by happenings below 200 kHz, there's a VK-ZL
LF Net every Thursday evening at 0830Z on 3670 kHz, co-ordinated by
Stan ZL4MB. Call-in is from 0830Z to 0900Z.
LF station transmissions are each allocated a two minute time slot from
0900Z and reception reports are presented from all stations on
3670 kHz at about 0916Z.
Another round starts at 1000Z.
