Hallo lowfers,
some information abt that event in regular cw from JO40BP.
First qso Friday at 1815 utc, last one Sunday at 1050 utc. Interrupt Saturday
from 13 to 19 utc because of another om, who joined in a sw-contest from the
same spot. Our antenna was 30 meters up and also 30 meters wide consisting of
3 wires each 28 meters long, spaced 1 meter. Very good counterpoise. Weight
only 3KG. Because of Peter`s (DJ8WL) sickness we could not use his excellent
equipment but took the mine: The "fist-shot" 2-tubes transmitter (EL84,LS50)
from 1997, (built within 3 days and 2 nights from junk-box-parts, when I
suddenly got a short-term-permit for LF), and receiver IC729. Pse excuse our
chirp and running frequency. We struggled with strong intermodulation by the
many LF-radios in the Frankfurt area and- especially on Sat. eve- with increa
many LF-radios in the Frankfurt area and- especially on Sat. eve- with
increasing atmospheric noise, so we closed at 21 utc. Sunday morning was
rather quit. We worked with 16 stns in 6 countries: 4*G, 2*PA, 1*HB, ON, LX,
7*DL. ODX abt 900 KM. The average report we received was 2.7 S-steps more then
we could give: 5(6.3)9 vers. 5(3.5)9. Only LX1PD gave us 559 whereas we heard
Jul 599.
There will be much to do for the next expedition
- 2 more wires will be added to the 3 of the antenna we have now
- "State of the art"- oszillator
- cq-calls not longer than 1 minute
- cw with automatic keyer- to prevent the om`s special style, hi
- loop for the receiver, digital audio processor
- and more to improve our receiving conditions
And we hope that Peter will be with us the next time
