I am contacting you as I am looking for involvement, support and/or ideas for a
73kHz Forum that I am arranging for the forthcoming RSGB 1996 International HF
& IOTA Convention. The Forum is programmed for an hour on the afternoons of
both the 5 & 6th of October at the Beaufort Conference Centre, Old Windsor,
Berkshire. Details of the Convention are in the latest RSGB RadCom and also at
the following URL
http://www.rsgb.org.uk/news/nwsextra.htm
As a member of the RSGB's HF Committee, one of the bodies that is
organising the event, my interest for the Forum is to bring people, ideas and
awareness of what others are doing together. Thus any contribution that you
can make, by either
a) letting me know if you plan to come to one or both of the sessions
and whether you wish to actively participate in the Forum discussion
(can I twist you arm to join in as a panel member?);
b) informing me of what you have achieved or are working on with
respect of the 73kHz band;
c) forwarding this e-mail to others who you know may be interested.
I would be particulary keen, if you are not able to attend, for your
permission to use the contents of your web pages (with due acknowledgement) at
the Convention. I imagine that I may be able to get that and similar material
printed either as a hand-out, or as a wall-chart display.
I am very keen that UK amateurs are able to make good use of this new
allocation. It seems to me that we have a wonderful opportunity for exploiting
the band's potential for underground communications, for experimentation on the
fundamentals or radio communication and because of the low frequency the band
make it affordable to experiment with novel narrow-band forms of communication.
At a time when governments are increasingly looking for cost-effective use of
radio spectrum this band meets the main criteria for licencing it to the
Amateur service - experimentation, technical training and emergency support.
I hope that you can give support in some way for the Convention.
73's de John
