LF transatlantic tests on weekend January 15th-17th, 1999
 ----------------------------------------------------------

Hello to the LF-community in Europe,

the coming weekend can be an exciting one since our LF-friends
in USA and several European LF-stations are setting up equipment
to find out whether it is possible to cross the Atlantic ocean
on LF (abt 137 kHz) with the little power radiated by amateur
radio stations and antennas in Europe.

Since all this activity will be centered around using very slow
CW signals and DSP it is a great chance to check your receiving
equipment, especially when you have the capability to use FFT-
programs or similar software (SPECTROGRAM) on your PC evaluating
the "noise" coming out of your LF receiver.

I am forwarding the data on hand as follows:

station: day: from UT - to UT: dot element length: text sent:

 IK1ODO 15.1. 21.00 - 23.59 5 sec "iko"
 IK1ODO 16.1. 04.00 - 12.00 5 sec "iko"

 IK1ODO transmits on 137.770 kHz (+/- 1 Hz)
 ------------------------------------------------------------------

 HB9ASB 17.1. 04.00 - 05.00 unknown "asb"

 HB9ASB transmits on 137.790 kHz (+/- 1 Hz)
 ------------------------------------------------------------------

 G0AKN 16.1. 12.00 - 13.00 4 sec "g0akn"

 G0AKN transmits on 137.460 kHz
 ------------------------------------------------------------------

G3LDO data unknown up till now

 G3LDO transmits on 137.750 kHz
 ------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of these stations may well be heard in Central Europe when
checking the frequencies indicated above. Due to the length of a
dot (several seconds !) check for "interrupted" carriers on the
 frequencies mentioned above.

One of the stronger EU-stations - EI0CF - has been notified as
well but there is no information yet saying Finbar will also be
active. His signals should be strong enough to make it.

The group at the other end (across the pond) will have various
receivers/antennas, sophisticated equipment and will record part
of the LF-spectrum on tape in order to analyze it later using DSP-
 techniques.
Lets keep our fingers crossed that this expedition will be successful!
Members of the group gathering at Nags Head, North Carolina are
 K0BRA, WB5OYP, K4OVK, WB5MMB, KA0ESA, WA3WDR, K7UO, N4ICK + others.

 Regards,
 Peter / DJ8WL
