(Special holiday posting!)
Casually tuning over 137kHz last night (23rd Dec) just before 19.00z I was
astonished to find an audible morse signal on 137.11kHz. Despite the high
evening domestic noise level, the signal was a fully readable 569 and was
sending "DE OH1TN LOC KP11OO". I made a long cassette recording, which is
very clear, and also ran the 'slow' waterfall display to check the stability
of the signal - it doesn't appear to be crystal controlled.
The signal peaked around 19.15z and then started to fade noticably after
about 19.30z, until it was only just audible above the noise. Just before
19.55z it disappeared, both audibly and from the display and I copied nothing
after that. I was using my usual 180ft end-fed horizontal wire antenna, and
there would seem little doubt that I was receiving sky-wave.
Distance calculated from locators is 1,762km - not bad DX on LF!
Seasons Greetings
