To the Editor's Office

The 49th Weinheim VHF Convention
is being held over the weekend of 11th and 12th September 2004
in Weinheim and Bensheim.

Dear Sir or Madam,

This is the last press release that we shall be issuing prior to
Convention weekend. All details reflect the current status on 22nd July
2004. If your date for going to press for the September issue is later,
please visit our site at http://www.ukwtagung.de for the most up-to
date information.

Saturday, 11th September 2004, at the Karl Kübel School in Bensheim

The events which made up the traditional part of the VHF Convention in
previous years have been consolidated this year and are all taking
place on the Saturday, with a new addition: the Youth Forum.

Lectures:
The program covers a very broad range of subjects with lectures being
presented in 2 lecture rooms. This year, the typical subjects
associated with VHF, UHF and SHF are being supplemented by a few new
topics which reflect the latest state of the art even if some of them
refer to lower frequency bands.
The entries for the Home Brew Competition will be presented at around 5
o'clock in the afternoon and prizes will be awarded to the best entries
in each category.

Commercial exhibition:
In spite of the fact that many companies do not register until the last
minute, the most important names have already been added to the list of
those attending this year's Convention. The range of articles on offer
promises to be highly diversified, including the most up-to-date
devices, PCBs, antennas and accessories.

Flea market:
A few changes will be taking place in this respect this year. Firstly,
exhibitors will be able to drive into the site, and secondly, they can
choose whether they wish to set up their stands inside or outside. Not
only that, but they will be able to set their stands up on Friday if
they wish. On Saturday morning, access to the flea market will be
permitted from 6 o'clock onwards. Experience has shown that most
exhibitors arrive to set up their stands between 6 and 8 o'clock on
Saturday morning. Visitors begin to arrive shortly afterwards. Tables
will be available in the school building.

Youth Forum:
A new event in the program for the 49th VHF Convention!
This is a cooperative venture between numerous amateur radio working
groups and schools. Its objectives include demonstrating the
multifarious ways in which amateur radio can be combined with computers
and encouraging both groups (IT specialists and amateur radio
enthusiasts) to learn from one another. Activities will include
workshops, demonstrations and lectures, which will be taking place on
the first floor of the Karl Kübel School.

Sunday, 12th September 2004, at the DL_WH Clubhouse

Another new feature: the Convention will be moving to the home of DL_WH
for Sunday's events.
As usual, the meadow next to the clubhouse will be available for
camping and Martin & Martina will again be organising the catering on
Friday and Saturday evenings (with our guests providing the necessary
atmosphere!).

A brunch will be kicking off Sunday's agenda, before people gather
round the tables for discussions with Saturday's lecturers and other
kindred spirits.

Volker - DF7IT - will be setting up his SHF measuring equipment in the
shack, offering you a means of having your bought or home-brew
equipment checked through.

More athletic radio colleagues will be able to test their
direction-finding skills in the fox hunt. Although this is being judged
officially, newcomers will be welcome to take part.
Anybody with articles to sell may set up a stand in front of his tent.
However, Sunday's "flea market" should be primarily to rare VHF, UHF,
SHF components.

The club station DL_WH may be used throughout the Convention and packet
radio access via DB_WHM will be realised by means of w-LAN.

As always, up-to-date information concerning the VHF Convention can be
found in the Internet at http://www.ukwtagung.de and under "UKW" in
packet radio.

A brief press release containing the most important information on the
Convention will be issued on our Internet site on Monday after the
weekend.
