Hello,
I will use the 9k6 Soundmodem under Linux.
The conditions here are: SuSE 5.3 (Kernel 2.0.35 and libc5),K5 CPU
and Soundblaster AWE64.
Soundsupport with the Kernel works, also 1k2 Soundmodem.
But: I don't have a PTT signal on MIDI or serialport.
The ptt signal on parallelport works fine !
I compiled the soundmodem at the computer of a friend of mine
(he uses an ESS Soundcard) and there we don't have a ptt on
parallelport or sereial port (we use 1k2 with a vox).
Our Kernel setting are equal, but he have a Pentium II on a VX-PRO
Board (I use the VX-PRO Chipset too, but on a socket 7 Motherboard)
That is my first question: Why are there no signals on the other
ports available, and why are there different ports on different
Computers available ?
Next problem is, that my soundmodem decode 9k6, but if I try to send,
an other 9k6 equipment doesn't decode my signals.
I tried to set higher my tx-delay and txtail and I tried some mixer
settings. Best smmixer settings are: smmixer s=line i=-3 o=-46 .
Wth o=-44 the modulator of my trx will be overmoduled, so that
signals sounds like hacked. -48 and -50 sounds to weak....
I use the line-In connector on my AWE, because the signals on mic
were to loud.
Also I use the line-out, because on speaker-out the signals were to
strong at smmixer settings like o=-56...
Is there any chance that an other Soundmodem could decode my packets,
or do the Soundmodem driver don't support 9k6 with an AWE64 ?
Because I hoped that the soundmodem works better with a new Kernel,
I tried the Kernel 2.1.113, wich is in my destribution,
but now I have the problem, that the ax25-utils have problems to
communicate with the kernel.
If I try to make a ax25-connect with "call sm0 db0whv", call ends
with the errormessage: "bind: invalid argument" (sm0 is my soundmodem
device).
listen works, ping too (1k2...9k6 I didn't try yet)...
Now I hope, that there is any user outhere, who uses the awe64 (or32)
and can gif me some tips (Kernel or BIOS settings and so on).
