Hold on Warren, solar power has its uses. Here in this state all our
harbour and aerodrome beacons, both light and radio, are powered by solar
panels. Roadside emergency telephones on highways are solar powered (it is
600 + km between Port Hedland and Broome - long walk if you break down).
All our small rural telephone exchanges are powered by solar panels. There
are many of those some quite isolated. Caravaners travelling round OZ are
putting solar panels on the tops of their vans with a transverter inside
the van to power TVs, radio, microwave ovens, AC, heating, etc., all the
home comforts on the move.
The junction of the Exmouth Road and the North West Coastal Highway has
yellow sodium street lights each of which has a solar panel attached.
Meekatharra, a mid west mining town of a few thousand residents has a
power station powered during the day by a solar boiler with a diesel
engine cutting in automatically at night.
I don't know how extensive the use of solar panels is in the other states,
but in this state the houses are also sprouting solar panels for which
there is a Government subsidy, and the power authority pays the customer
for the excess power generated, which is fed into the grid.
Who has been proven wrong? I would not write off solar power. The "hair
brained scheme" seems to be popular here in this state, and it has meant
electric power where none exists from a conventional power station..
Of course as I have been reminded many times by my critics I know because
I live here.

>No pity on solar power needed, for one thing I'm glad the futurists of
decades past were proven wrong, their hair brained schemes never did work
out so now a little wiser they tread more cautiously.
