There is a way to convert Streets and Trips maps for use on Ui-view. I
don't remember how to do it but the instructions are either in the
Help file of on the website (i can't remember where I found the
instructions). I do remember that you have to follow the instructions
word for word. If you do, this it is easy, if you jump ahead, you are
in for a very long day.
Todd, If you have problems with it send me an email and I will
re-learn how do do it and make you some maps. But try first.

Steve

You could make static maps from it.

Hi All,

Im new to this scene.. just want a bit of guidance. I have had a look around the t'interweb but i cant seem to find any solid information.. i have also tried looking through this groups archive.. but there is a bit too many posts.

I would like to know what equipment i would need to activate a mobile station. I have an ft-8100, but i was thinking of using an old crystalised radio just for use on 144.800Mhz.

I can hear some stations around here, and i hooked my radio upto the computer and can see them coming up on the map.

I am in the middle of getting setup at home with it, i have a PK-23 TNC.

So, could someone push me in the right direction please?

Many thanks,
Mike 2E1ICK

Mike,
your question doesn't in any way indicate any problem with the use of G4IDE's UI-View software.
I would think you would be better off with replies to your general APRS question if you posted to e.g. the yahoo! APRS group, which is not dedicated to one particular software.

MapPoint Update Time Again! Posted by: "Stephen H. Smith" wa8lmf(AT)aol.com edacs450 Date: Thu Sep 3, 2009 6:06 pm ((PDT)) Once again Microsoft has released new versions of MapPoint and Streets & Trips on the first of September. And yes, again the map data format has remained unchanged -- meaning the data from this version can be used to update older versions of MapPoint or Streets & Trips. Users of APRSpoint or UIview (via the UI-Point plug-in) may be interested in the free "trial" download of MapPoint 2010, which can be used to update data in older versions of these programs. 1) Are you "shooting yourself in the foot" by allowing a firewall or
security software to block UIview's attempt to reach out to the Internet?

2) UIview is a program frozen in time. All updating of the
out-of-the-box settings and defaults ceased over 4 years ago when the
author, G4IDE, died suddenly of cancer. Among these things, the
included server list and the default address for updates is now
hopelessly out of date. See my website for a long list of things that
have changed or need to be altered to make UIview work today:

Your server list is probably outdated, and the checked server isn't
active any more.
some possibilities, but I'd try this one:

Setup - APRS Server Setup
In the server list box, uncheck any checked server.
Click inside the list box, hit the Insert key.
Write: rotate.aprs.net:14580
hit Enter
check the new server
in the extra login text box, write: filter m/500
OK

The M/500 filter will give you packets (over the Internet) from
stations within a 500 km range. Increase the number if you want a
larger range. The range is in km, not in miles.

Also, search the message archives for messages regarding the latest
APRS server lists.
However, there is an advice at the bottom of each email sent from the
group:
||- At http://wa8lmf.net/aprs/UIview_Notes.htm, you will find useful hints and info for your UI-View set-up and use.
||- To get an updated APRS server list, use this address: http://f5vag.eu/download2.html rather than the default address.

Can't see which dialogue box you are writing about ...

Welcome to the group! Try another server. Which one(s) are you
attempting to connect to? You could update the server list by going to
FILE - DOWNLOAD APRS SERVER LIST and make sure you have the
updated URL entered...

france.aprs2.net/APRServe2.txt

You could then select a couple... e.g.

SETUP - APRS SERVER SETUP and select northwest.aprs2.net:14580
and noam.aprs2.net:14580 in that order. Hit F1 for help and you will see
why I suggested entering two. Also, the "noam" entry will select from
one of several North American servers to try.

Make sure you have "enable auto reconnect" enabled, and of course, you
need to have your APRS validation number entered, and a suitable filter
in the "extra log-on text".

You can automate the initial connection in FILE - SCHEDULE EDITOR.

Is it WL7BCT-1 you are having trouble with? It was connected to T2USANW
about 6 hours ago. I'm currently connected to that server with no
problems. Perhaps you could verify that your computer has a connection.
Can you browse to the status page at http://northwest.aprs2.net:14501/?
