Recent SA UFO Sightings

Few people would not recognize the name of Dr. Carl Jung, but how many know that he wrote a book on UFOs in 1959? And saying what he did as quoted above, what has changed in the world of UFOlogy ? We find that the ridicule-factor is still enforced through most levels of society, and the authorities are still in ostrich country, keeping their heads safely stuck in the dark ground.
But for those truth-seekers who need to know, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Here at the southern tip of darkest Africa, South Africa is coming out of the closet. At the second annual Unbind Your Mind conference held on the 1st of July, Cape Town was witness to the revealing of a wide spectrum of marginalized topics, and the guest speakers came from as far a field as Johannesburg. A special thank you to Anthea Torr who was most loved by the audience and left us with lots of food for thought on living lightly on this planet and raising the vibrations. This conference only scratched the tip of the iceberg, but the overwhelming public interest before and after the event, clearly shows that there is a hunger for the unknown. Most of the information covered at the conference is now available as a separate publication.
Of the many reports that are constantly received at SAUFOR, about 10% are recent sightings which indicate that a lot of groundwork still needs to be done in collecting these reports, adding them to the database, and attempting to gain valuable statistical information. As more and more people release years of built-up pressure caused by not being able to tell their story, the full scope of SA UFO sightings is not yet known by anyone in the public sector.
Herbie Johnson caught a strange aerial object on camera on 23 June while traveling with friends en route to Bloemfontein from Cape Town. This story was published in the You/Huisgenoot magazine and this author was approached by the magazine for an opinion of what the object could be. The first thoughts that came to mind were definitely not extraterrestrial, but rather some kind of manmade flying craft, possibly Top Secret. In fact, it reminded me a lot of a space shuttle launch. But this was seen near Touwsriver, while on the road just past the Hex River Valley Pass, where we don’t know of any space-launching facilities.. According to the witnesses, the object (whatever it was) must have been very high and quite a distance away, because they could see it for approximately 45 minutes, and during the whole experience it traveled in a straight line, leaving behind what appears to be two distinct condensation trails. No official explanation has been forthcoming. And then when others saw the article, we received confirmation of this specific sighting from as far north as the Kruger National Park.
Top Secret manmade craft aside, as far as we can tell, most true UFOs have propulsion systems, which allow them to create a gravity field around the craft. This kind of anti-gravity system will never leave condensation-like trails, as the object does not physically travel through the air, but rather in its own bubble of gravity, in other words there would be no friction between the air particles and the object, and no temperature changes left on the environment. This also helps us to understand why most true UFOs can travel at super-sonic speeds without creating a sonic boom (what happens when we try to force an object to travel through the air above the speed of sound). Additionally, this explains how these anomalous craft can perform such maneuvers as near 90-degree turns at seemingly impossible speeds. Then again, Top Secret manmade flying craft are known to also have these anti-gravity capabilities. I wonder how the humans got their hands on this kind of technology that our authorities can’t even tell the public about.
Then on 25 June a very interesting daylight disc was captured on a digital camera from Camps Bay beach. Three consecutive photos were taken in the space of a few seconds, of the well-known Huey-Bell helicopter as it was flying by. Only on the third photo a shiny metallic-looking object is seen. The strange thing is that no such object was noticed by the naked eye, and only showed up when the photos were downloaded onto the laptop on 19 July. Both objects, the helicopter and the other object, show up as small images on the larger photo with lots of clear blue sky in the background, but when we enlarge only the objects, we see:
Another curious object was first spotted from Trichardt near Secunda on 25 July at 6:35am by four witnesses of whom three were children aged from 9 to 12. From our Johannesburg investigator, we received the following.
The witnesses were outside on the morning of the 25/07/2006 at about 6:35 am when they spotted a white object in the northeastern sky. It was observed for about 2 to 3 minutes moving in at a steady speed (below jet speed) and then it vanished. Feeling it will return Mrs R. got a pair of binoculars and a camera. About a minute or 2 later it did reappear and was observed again for 3 to 4 minutes through binoculars before the object disappeared and did not return and no picture was taken. The object was round, about the size of a Boeing 747 and there appeared to be some form of trail. Mrs R.’s son also saw some sort of metal in front although she did not see this. The object appeared to be hovering and moving very slowly and there was no sound and no lights of any kind. The sky was clear and the sun was just starting to rise and was below the horizon.

Guarantingueta, Sao Paulo, Brazil An Airline Pilot And Others Watch A Domed Disk
Date: May 6, 1994
Time: 3:30 a.m.

Full Description of event/sighting: I am an airline pilot (now retired) and I am also a qualified meteorologist and air traffic controller. I consider myself a very good aircraft observer. A group of us were returning from flight simulator training in Rio deJaneiro on the road to Sao Paulo, Brazil. We departed Rio late at night and drove along the main highway and at about 3:15 I was sleeping in the rear of the car which was travelling at high speed. The car was being driven by a local chauffeur and inside it was me, an airline captain at the time, an older flight engineer from the U.S. and my girlfriend who was a flight attendant and a pilot also. I was awaken by my girlfriend who pointed out a light in the sky which had been following us for a while, according to her. It was a bright red light in the sky and my first impression was that it was a radio antenna obstacle light high on a mountain.
However we were travelling fast on a flat area and there were no mountains around and the light was keeping up with us. The light was moving erratically in a side ways and up and down motion but keeping it's relative position to us, impossible for a stationary object. I thought of a helicopter, but there were no position lights or strobe visible and the light was moving in a very odd way for a helicopter. The lights started to change from red to yellow to white, green and even blue. This continued for at least five minutes and we slowed down from 80-90 miles per hour to 40 and the light kept it's relative position to us. Traffic on the highway was light, but we reached a point where there was a bus, two or three trucks and several cars parked on the side of the road and people were outside of their vehicles watching the object in the sky.
It was a clear but dark a night with no moon, there was a cloud cover but it was high probably over 10,000 feet and apparently the object was initially flying at 3-4000 feet and a mile away from us. I asked the driver to pull to the side of the road and I came out of the car, followed by my girlfriend. The object was now much lower and closer and was hovering to the south side of the highway.
I could not hear any sound and the lights were now dimmed but still changing colors and I could see the shape of the object to be the familiar dome shaped object. I walked two hundred feet on the side of the road towards the object which was hovering low, no sound came from it and the night was absolutely still except for an occasional vehicle passing down the road. There were several vehicles stopped on the side of the road further down and I walked back to the car to get a camera. I opened the trunk to get the camera but we had taken many pictures in Rio and we had no film left. My girlfriend joined me and we walked back towards the object which was floating three or four hundred feet away from us, dimly lit now and probably at two hundred feet above the ground.
Suddenly, there was a few flashes of multicolor lights from the top of the object and a faint bluish-greenish glow showed from the bottom part and the object started to float away quietly towards the south gaining altitude slowly at first and then increasingly fast. When the object started to move I felt some vibration and heard a faint low pitch humming sound. After another multicolor light display the object climbed straight up very fast and still silently. It changed direction several times in a series of sharp, right angle turns and then disappeared. While I was close to the object there was a faint smell of ionization, not unlike that smell present in high power radio station transmitting rooms, when they used vacuum tubes. There was also a taste of metal in my mouth.
The cars and trucks started leaving and we climbed in the car and drove on until we reached a truck stop restaurant further down the road were several other witnesses who had stopped for coffee. Our driver, who had stayed inside the car told me that there was a lot of static in the car's radio while the object was nearby. The people at the restaurant told us that sightings are common in that area. I also remembered that in 1972 I was flying near the same area one night and an airliner ahead of my airplane reported a UFO. I did not see the object myself but listened to the radio conversation between the airliner, the air traffic controllers and other airplanes on the area.
There was a U.S. military aircraft in the area that night in 1972 and after landing I talked to the crew which had seen the object. The subject never came up again after that night. In 30 years of flying and being a control tower operator for some time, I heard many UFO stories but had never actually seen one until that night in Brazil in 1994. Upon my return to the U.S. some weeks later, I reported this sighting to every possible government agency and filed several reports but never received any reply.
Additional Information:
A couple of follow up interesting facts: When I arrived in Sao Paulo later the following morning, I did contact the civil aviation authorities but they did not have any radar reports. This was in the Rio-Sao Paulo highway which is probably one of the busiest highways in Brazil connecting the two enormous cities.
A few days later I was in Asuncion, Paraguay and there was another UFO incident which involved a couple of aircraft, including a DC-8 airliner flown by the national carrier and a small Cessna aircraft. The DC-8 Captain, a Paraguayan Air Force Colonel, was the brother of my best friend in Paraguay who us also a pilot. The incident was told to me first hand and it included sightings by the airport authorities, police, the military. The object, similar to the one I saw in Brazil chased both airplanes in the early evening and then hovered for a few minutes over the runway at the international airport.
During this time I met a Paraguayan investigative reporter, Mr. Rodriguez, a real good reporter and a great unbiased investigator. He was a correspondent of Mexican and Spanish UFO magazines, I don't remember which ones but he was connected with the reporter who became a UFO investigator in Mexico. There were quite a few sightings in Paraguay at the time (June-July 1994) and I met at least one German Air Force (Luftwaffe) officer-pilot in Asuncion who was unofficially
looking into these incidents which happened over a lake (Ypacarai Lake) near Asuncion.
Rodriguez told me that they had been in the site several times and that they had actual encounters that made everyone
present believe that the objects were communicating with them somehow and were guided by some form of intelligence. But this is second hand information and I did not see any of this but it was an interesting follow up to my own sighting.
Let me tell you that I am a former naval officer with experience in ships, I have been a pilot for 42 years now, many of which I was a long range intercontinental pilot of heavy jets. I have also studied meteorology, astronomy and air traffic control. I had never until that time seen anything which I could not explain.

Newport, Rhode Island Saucers And Triangles

Full Description of event/sighting: 11-16-04. On this night both the anniversary of my fathers death and the birth of my grandfather I had an intense UFO experience. While laying on the couch I received some kind of message to get up, grab the binoculars and lay under my skylight and look for movement. I remember seeing a couple flashes of light in the star field and being frustrated. I said to myself "come on now lets not play hide and seek" just then I spotted what looked two saucer shaped craft at about thirty thousand feet. They were huge I could make out lights emanating out from the edges, while coming to grip with the fact that I am looking at real UFOs suddenly through my field of view at about five hundred feet flew a totally silent black triangle. I only saw it for a moment because I was looking through the binoculars and it was so close.
At this point I put down the binoculars and went down to my mother's apartment to tell her what's over the roof. I think she was concerned that I was going crazy. Sitting in amazement over what I had just seen I started to feel frightened, cotton mouth, heart racing, the works it felt like I was being probed while sitting in that chair. My mother calmed me down and I gained my composure back. I said to my self no more star gazing tonight. The following night I called my sister to talk about the event, she is a spiritual healer (healingthehologram.com) I told her that I felt like the aliens probed me. She told me to ask what the alien called it self the name Ether came to my mind weird. We talked for hours till 9:00pm and I felt much better. As I hung up the phone I looked up and out the skylight and this time gliding at about 200 feet and 20mph rotating slowly was another huge silent triangle, it flew directly over head then turned 90 degrees and flew off, WOW up close and personal !

Poza Rica Veracruz, Mexico A Shaft Of Brilliant Light From Craft Engulfed Witness

Description: This was relayed to my mother who recently returned from Mexico. My uncle "C" was walking around the back of his house around 9:00pm, clear skies. A multicolored light in the sky caught his attention. (height unknown) He stated that, "he thought God had come to get him", because the colors were so beautiful, however when a shaft of brilliant light engulfed him he became frightened. He stated he could not move when the light hit him, he stated he was "frozen" and could not scream or yell to his nephew in the house next door. The sighting occurred within a span of 10 seconds and the
object then disappeared as soon as it had appeared. End.
Color/Shape: Multicolored lights described as beautiful. UFO with swirling lights, beautiful multicolors. Shaft of light (like spot light) hit him and he was frozen.
Height & Speed: About the size of a bus-- but round, with lights swirling around edges of object. Appeared in sky and disappeared after 10 seconds.
TV/Radio/Press: No not reported. It should be noted that my uncle thought UFO's were nonsense. Now he does not go out after dark, he remains frightened. It should be noted that others in the area have reported weird lights in the area and surrounding communities. I just thought that this incident would go unreported if I did not relay this to you. I firmly believe if everyone would report UFO encounters, we could perhaps get closer to discovering the reason for the phenomenon.

North Of Salem, Virginia A Torpedo Or Cigar-Shaped Object
Date: October 12, 2006
Time: 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. (On a beautiful clear, cloudless Autumn day).
The day was so beautiful and the light so perfect and clear that I just had to be outside. So I went for a walk in woods near the golf course north of Salem, VA. Returning from the woods I had to cross an open field to get back to my car parked at the golf course. On the way across the field the sunlight became very enchanting to me and I decided to lie down in the grass for a while, soak up the sun, listen to the birds chirping, etc. As I lay there (feet facing slightly northwest), sun on my left, with my left arm raised to block out the very bright and clear sun, I began to play with trying to "look at the sky" to my right - north. (You can't really look at a clear sky - there is no point of focus for your eyes to rest upon - all you really see is an indefinitely-located blueness and after a while you start to get Brownian dots sparking all over the place.
As I was concentrating on these sparkling Brownian dots, I was suddenly very surprised to see a torpedo or cigar-shaped object that just popped into the sky overhead and to the right a bit, which would have been to the north. No wings. No sound. No contrail. Travelling in a straight line. Light in color, maybe silverish. Long slender body. I followed its path to the left, toward the sun, then lost it in the glare. My first thought was that it had to be a plane of some kind, and that its sudden appearance was a visual trick deriving from not paying attention, or perhaps it was a plane that had just dropped low enough in altitude to became visible.
Curious and intrigued, I looked back to the north and waited as the Brownian dots appeared again, and another object popped into view, same shape, same movement. It seemed to me that it appeared at the same spot in the sky, but I couldn't be sure because I had shifted my gaze away to follow the first one.
After that (and I still couldn't believe that these objects were just appearing out of nowhere), I made myself steadily look at the same spot in the sky for perhaps five minutes more, but although there were lots of dots of light, no other objects appeared.
As I headed home, I believed I had to have been seeing planes, but tonight, reading your latest sightings, I realized that these objects hadn't had wings.
Could these just have been planes? I intend to do this exercise again on another clear bright day and see what happens !

Denver/Aurora, Colorado Five Points Of Red Light
Date: October 15, 2006
Time: 10:45 p.m.
Location of Sighting: Balcony of apartment.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was in my bedroom last night on the computer when I heard my girlfriend say, hey, come here and check out this UFO, quick!. She normally makes fun of me for scanning the sky at night and hunting for anomalous objects, so I took her pretty seriously. So I ran out to where she was and she pointed at the sky to a large bright light. Being familiar with my location, I recognized the object as an airplane on its descent into DIA. At the exact time that I told her what it was, an object came flying into our field of view from the northwest.
It was far too low to be a plane or jet, and it had no sound coming from it at all. It was also flying more than 3-4 times the speed of any plane that I have seen flying around our area. It's shape was basically a large round ball of red light, with 4 other smaller red balls flanking it in the shape of a square. I was not sure if it was one object or five. The shape overall looked like the 5 on a pair of dice. It was only in our view for 3-4 seconds as it whizzed by out of our field of view to the south. We both had no idea what it was.
