This is OK, if you only want to read an HTM message in text format. But to
view it in glorious "Technicolor", try the suggestion below. You can see
the picture files, providing you have them in your library, included in the
HTM file.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
VIEWING HTML messages with TSTHOST possible ?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
(For all those DOS minded people and WINDOWS haters)
YES it is possible ! That will say in DOS with TSTHOST 1.43b (tested)
HOW ?
With the DOS browser ARACHNE available at the internet at:
http://www.nat.cz/arachne
* Download ARACHNE en install it on your HD
* Make a directory HTML in your TSTHOST dir
* Make a directory HTMLIB in your TSTHOST dir and put in it all the
messages available at:
http://www.geocities/com/capecanaveral/launchpad/7916
* Now edit your TSTHOST.EXT and put in the line:
.HTM C:\ARACHNE\CORE.EXE !
(of course you need to change the pad if ARACHNE is somewere else on your HD)
When you receive a HTML message and want to view it. Choose it from the
list and instead of reading it you do ALT+M then TSTHOST asks for a file
and type in the path to your HTML dir. For example :
C:\TSTHOST\HTML\filename.htm
(Don't forget the .HTM on the end)
Then in TSTHOST you go to your file commander with ALT+F7 and go to the
dir HTML. You choose the filename.htm en ENTER. If everything is allright
the ARACHNE browser will start and you can view and read the HTML message.
You can also do it more automatic with a macro. Though disadavantage is
that the macro will pick up all the messages instead of one at the time:
Here the macro that I tested, it will save all the messages to HTML and
WINPAC. The macro needs to be in TSTHOST.MAC. You can start it with the
command HTML filename (no .HTM the macro does it for you).
# HTML viewing with ARACHNE. Autosave HTML/WINPAC messages
#
:HTML
10 DISPLAY HTML Messages will be copied to the HTML dir
20 IFUNDEFPAR 1 1000
30 MAILCOPY >WINPAC %1.HTM
40 MAILCOPY >HTML %1.HTM
50 COPY %1.HTM D:\TSTH143\HTML\%1.HTM
60 DISPLAY Message are now in the HTML dir under the name: %1.HTM
70 DISPLAY View with ARACHNE
80 RUN D:\TEMP\ARACHNE\CORE.EXE D:\TSTH143\HTML\%1.HTM
100 MAB
1000 DISPLAY No filename ?
1001 MAB
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disadvantages viewing HTML in DOS with ARACHNE:
* No ANIMATED .gif
* No background pictures, if in .jpg
* WinPack DDE links will not work
Advantages:
* View HTML without WINDOWS
* Finally it's possible to read HTML more easily

I've been using it for the best part of a year now, it'll even let you
convert the HTM file to a TXT file for forwarding to your mates on packet.
