Sorry folks. It wasn't me. I have always believed in using the clearest
English possible and that isn't it.
I don't agree with the 'Clear English.' campaign either. I once received a
letter. It was written in 'clear' English.
It was so childish I didn't understand it. Luckily, the writer had sent a
letter to my doctor in more 'grown up' English. I asked her to show it to
me and understood what the 'clear English' one was about.
There are two lessons here. One is obvious. Avoid using flowery English to
impress people, only use long words if you can't use simpler ones.
The second is from this bulletin. Someone wrote the bit about 'verbal
pulchritude' but it certainly wasn't me!
That's the risk you run when you keep quoting people out of context.
Some programmes make that all too easy.
As the last line came without chevrons, I'm guessing it was from David,
G4EBT, a well educated man who wouldn't need to grope his dictionary:-)

p.s. The only thing I've apologised for in the last few years is getting
the 'Challenger' and the 'Columbia' spacecraft mixed up. On second
thoughts, if Warren hadn't changed topics in mid thread, I wouldn't have
got confused.
