It seems that, somewhere along the line, or thread, if you prefer, I have
got two American shuttles confused.

I was replying to the last one, which didn't return due to the fact that
it lost some of the panels of it's ablative shield on takeoff.
The resultant overheating tragically killed the crew on re entry.

I havent looked at any doctionaries but, as a schoolboy, I attended a
school where Latin and Greek were rammed down our throats so I know that
the word 'ablative' refers to ' taking away' in this case, heat.

Plasma is ancient Greek and has a number of meanings in biology and
physics. In physics it can be used to refer to an ionised gas, which,
I suppose, could be a constituent of a fuel.

This is quite alright but was, of course, referring to the solid fuel
booster on a previous space shottle where the accident was eventually
traced to a faulty 'O' ring which allowed the fuel to leak and explode
prematurely.

I don't know how this previous shuttle got into the discussion but I did
confuse it with the later accident.

For this I apologise. I also apologise for my bad spelling. This is due to
poor eyesight. I usually go back and check but must have forgotten that
time.

I think that Ian VK5QX ( The Aussie one) summed it up very nicely and I
agree with his last words.

However, I have to ask, "Why all the argument over just one single word
accompanied by inferred insults?"

It is getting silly.Just a stupid excercise in one upmanship.
