I thought I'd send this to TREK@WW as I have it tagged so that I can read
what others say which used to be a lot as it was a very popular topic at
one time. SG1 is also a Gene Roddenberry creation. I don't know how old it
is as you see some things repeatedly when you have cable as I did for a
while.
Currently, on terrestrial we have just seen the episode where our intrepid
SG1 team encounter the 'Hebrideans' an offshoot of ancient Celts. They are
travelling in a ship called 'Serbus', meant to be 'Cerberus', the god who
led people to safety, or something like that. I learn't as a boy, that
Cerberus was the graeco Roman three headed dog who guarded the entrance to
Hades.

At least they got the gender right. In one episode, which has been shown
at least four times, our band of four, encountered a tribe who worshipped
the god 'Freya'. er, God?.

Freya or Frigga, was the old Norse verion of the Earth mother, she was
equivalent to Venus for the Romans, Aphrodite for the Greeks and Isis for
the Ancient Egyptians, as well as Ceres.

She has always been female. The germanic races, like us Brits use her name

in Friday, Freya's Day, the German 'Freitag, Norse Frisdag etc.
The 'Frigga' version of her name comes in lots of other words I can't use
on packet.

She very definitely was Female.

Star Trek gets a lot of it's physics mixed up. Jumping from Newtonian to
relativistic to quantum physics but that's just their 'technobabble' nice
word that. Mythological beings are a lot simpler than physics so screwing
up the origin and gender of your characters is a bit silly.
I still watch it. I've just watched the episode where they wrote out
'Daniel Jackson' to replace him with 'Jason', a much younger guy who isn't
so much of a nerd and. presumably, better looking. I can't really tell the
latter. I'm a man who has always preferred woman - sorry.

I will now wait for someone, probably from Nwe Jersey to explain how
mistaken I have been all these years and that Freya actually was a man.

     All the best - Ian, G0TEZ @ GB7YFS.#26.gbr.eu
