While looking at your map Harry, take a look at the Maracaibo Lakes
and in particular a deeper blue circle that indicates deeper water
as if there were a hole there. When a ship I was on went through that
area the depth indicator though set at maximum failed to find bottom!

I think that may have been caused by a fragment of meteorite or other
space debris.

The Tunguska impact event is another spectacular instance of something
colliding with planet earth!
