Hello Ralph and all.
I thought someone might like Makelist and, if I remembered to add it, the
simple way of creating the .tem file, which I was struggling with until I
decided to create my own.

The swith on/off programme sounds interesting, perhaps you can put it out
as 7Plus.
I knew someone once, Howard,G3RXH who ran two nodes and set them to power
down and on with a mains switch.
I'm not sure what packet programme he used though.
I run TPK in DOS. The easy way is to leave a boot disk in the floppy drive,
then it boots itself into dos.
You can make TPK.exe part of Autoexec.bat, as you say.
Turning TPK off is quite simple. You can use the time command, normally
used for occasional commands, e.g.

AT 1300 EXE FIN^M in CONFIG.TPK
That would execute the stop (FIN) command and enter. The normal quick exit
is ALT X of course. Either one will do.

I used to run a command just to stop and start TPK from transmitting.
I used two script files START and STOP with the 'AT 1200 EXE START' type of
command in CONFIG.TPK but have it run the section of the CONFIG file which
says BR GB7BBS C GB7BBS only make it simply BR GB7BBS C

Without the second occurence of the BBS name TPK will just not connect but
will keep running GB7BBS u GB7BBS to collect unproto headers.
You could do a XMIT OFF and XMIT ON if you wanted to turn the TNC off but
it couldn't operate as a digi or a PMS in that case.

Those are the simple approaches, easy if you are using DOS programmes, a
bit more complicated if you are running under Windows though.
I'm sure Roger thought that all BBSs would eventually send out unproto
headers so his Makelist would not be needed. Instead, we have more 'modern'
BBS software that doesn't do it and makes Makelist necessary.

My copy of Makelist was so old that part of it was corrupt so I am very
grateful to the station that emailed it to me.
I have just emailed it to someone else so, as it was only 31K decided to
7Plus it as well in case someone wanted it.

I don't know but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with other
programmes.

I look forward to seeing that switch off programme and I think others could
well like it too.

All the best. Ian.
