Hello All.
I have a strange problem with TPK. It won't connect or download
automatically.
I used it for several years until my TNC went bang almost two
years ago.
I kept working backups every six months in casr of problems.
Recently I bought a s/h micropower TNC and loaded one of the
backups. Then I ran into troubles.
When I connected to GB7HVU. after a pause it went into CONference
mode, reqirong a '.Q' to go back to the prompt.
I have tried two other copies of TPK and anpther computer.
I've even tried using YAPP.COMM, the simplest programme possible
and Minicom umder Linux. These don't put me into conference but
I'm stuck with 'vanilla ' Packet.
I've even loaded Linpac for Linux but haven't yet succeeded in
getting it working.
The only difference I now have with TPK is that I have to set it
to CTS instead of CTS+DSR which is what I always used over the
eight yers or so I used it.
A manual connect with TPK still takes me into conference. I did
try connecting to a BBS 30 miles away with no problems except that
that BBS no longer has as good a path as it had, so I can't use it.
It's as if TPK is sending an extra 'C' after I connect.
I have tried changing every TNC param I can think of but nothing
helps. With some settings I get garbage on received msgs and send
some too.
At the moment, I'm looking for an earlier copy of TPK. like 1.82
instead of 1.83c.
BTW, I even tried a beta copy of Winpack but that refused to
connect at all.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would be glad to hear them.
I like TPK. It used to chug away quite happily, collecting
headers, downloading messages, sending ACKs and decoding 7+
so I do miss it.
I am hoping for the temporary loan of a BSX but it hasn't
turned up yet. I am beginning to think it could be
hardware but the man who sold me the TNC says he tried it and
it was working well.
Any ideas would be welcome,
All the best. Ian.
