Hi to all you TPKers out there,
I've just had a nasty experience with TPK and it was all of my own making.
To cut a long story short, I have been having trouble downloading messages
from my local BBS. I tagged the messages I wanted but the BBS seemed to
kick me off before I could download them.
After a few days of trying to no avail, I switched the PC on and loaded up
TPK and the load failed. At first I thought it was a hard disk failure so I
rebooted and the same thing happened. So then I thought it was a virus, so
I ran my Intel Landesk virus scan program with the latest virus patten file
and it said all was clean.
Then I decided to run Norton Disk Doctor to see if I had a hard disk
problem. Then all was revealed. My hard disk was chock-a-block full because
I had been very slack with my TPK housekeeping. All those unread messages I
had tagged and subsequently downloaded had filled up my hard disk and TPK
didn't like it.
Well, the consequence of this willful act of laziness was the corruption of
both my private message and BBS list files which now prevents me from
reading all those downloaded files through TPK. I have had to delete both
files and start all over again. The downloaded messages are all still there
but I now have to read them through Xtree or the DOS text editor. This
makes it hard because the file name is the message number so you have to
open each message file to see what is in it.
So don't do what I did. Make sure you always have enough hard disk space
for the messages you want to download and keep up to date with your TPK
housekeeping.
I wished I had.......
73 and best wishes to all you TPKers.....
