Greetings to all you TPK experts!
For several years I have been running TPK on a 1200 bd system without any
problems. The TNC is a PK232MBX.
Recently I set up a 9600 bd system using a Pac-Comm NB96-TNC which is a
G3RUH modem attached to a Tiny 2 1200 bd TNC. My terminal baud rate is
19200 bd. I got the system working using PaKet 6.0 software and it works
fine and with no obvious problems. The timing parameters for 9600 bd were
optimised on this set up and data flow with my BBS is very good allowing
for his activity on other ports.
I then transferred my TPK software using the same parameters for timing as
developed with the PaKet 6.0. All other parameters were set either as for
the PK232 where relevant or after reviewing the TNC defaults. On leaving TPK
the CONFIGX.TPK sends a reset to restore defaults and a .SET file sends the
required parameters on boot up so that it always starts from defaults.
For the most part this works OK but I have consistent problems with
downloading bulletins and personal messages where a number have been
tagged. The first always comes through OK but then things go wrong. The
second message number comes up and is transmitted. The STATUS light goes
out as it is acknowledged by the BBS and a "ready to receive" packet is
sent. At this time all handshaking activity with the BBS stops. I can
disconnect and start again with no problem and the first outstanding
message comes in OK but it hangs up again on the next. This happens most
but not 100% of the time. Sometimes it will pick up after several
reconnects and download several messages with no apparent problem. There is
no similar problem with uploading multiple messages to the BBS.
My BBS has been using FBB7.00B and more recently FBB7.00C since I have got
the 9600 working. There is no difference between these softwares. Port
switching is using the G8BPQ software which hasnt been changed since the
days of FBB5.15c. The computer at the BBS has lots of speed and memory and
uses Windows 95. I cannot comment upon detailed configuration. I do know
that when FBB7.00B was installed it was just loaded over the 5.15C, which
may or may not be a good thing, and maybe 7.00C was similarly installed.
Any suggestions regarding a solution to this problem would be appreciated.
73 and thank you for reading this.
