tnt - a program by mark wahl, dl4ybg
questions i receive sometimes. (990424)

q: what is tnt ?
a: tnt is a character based terminal program
for packet radio with hostmode communication.

q: what operating system do i need for tnt ?
a: unix
that can be linux ( suse, redhat, debian, ..)
   and solaris

q: what are the first steps after downloading ?
a: gunzip <filename>.tgz or gunzip <filename>.tar.gz
   tar -xvf <filename>.tar
go to the created subdirectory and key in
   ./configure
   ( or ./configure --help )
   and read the README

q: to whom should i post my questions ?
a: best response you will get, if you post in english at
   dptnt @ ww

q: is it necessary to install ax.25-kernel
   or ax.25 utils ?
a: no
tnt can be installed also without this.

q: i forgot to switch on (power on) the tnc2
   what to do ?
a: this is a well known problem.
only a kill -9 <pid> does help immediatly.
or wait until synchonisation has done.

q: i have a linux distribution from xyz.
is it possible to compile tnt ?
a: i don't know. try it.
tnt is able to be compiled on near
   every linux distribution.

q: is it possible to telnet to tnt ?
a: yes
you have to open a port with the following command
   :socket axspec loopback:2222
this can either be done from the window or
   in the configuration-file itself.
where 2222 is an example of an portnumber.
if your_computer is con_nected to lan, then you
can do from every other computer of the lan a
   telnet your_computer 2222
and also you can on your_computer a
   telnet loopback 2222
and use the features of a xterminal or wherever
   you did start the telnet-session.
also you have to modify the file netpass.tnt
   as described in the documentation.

   important information:
   con_necting over a non-ham-network is not allowed
in austria due to the new law for amateur radio.

q: digi says: txdelay too long
a: modify the parameter t
reduce the value. reduce more up to a point, it
will still not work again. then increase with 2
you can do this by keying in ":t <value> <return>"
and checking the value with ":t <return>"

q: tfkiss was terminating normally.
   after new start it hangs.
a: remove the file tfkiss.par

q: the libcurses cannot be found
   at the time of compilation
a: try to compile with -ltermcap

q: the libtercap cannot be found
   at the time of compilation
a: try to compile with -lcurses or -lncurses
in any case the library search patch can be set
with the -L option at compilation.

q: where can i download tnt from internet
a: http://www.bfl.ac.at/mayer/ham
   http://excelsior.kullen.rwth-aachen.de/WSPse
http://www.debian.org ( for debian destribution of linux )

q: i can't read the mails starting with junk like this:
   <HTML> <BODY background=../htmlib/hugbg2.jpg BGColor=# ....
   <TABLE BGCOLOR=#cc6633 CELLPADDING=0 BORDER=0 WIDTH=100%> ....
a: i can't too,
therefore i don't answer to this.
