Hiya,

Its an ongoing saga here;how to get my TT3+/D710E/DR635 tnc to function so
that my position can be reported. On one trip south to Alicante from
Scarboro i decided to use the only logical path:cq v ariss,sgate,wide7-7:
and surprisingly i chose the very time when the ISS had visitors so nowt
worked for awhile, but i was not to know this when on the road. Living in
the stix does have disadvantages in that i cannot rely on the friendly
local digipeater to send my sigs on thru the Inet. Oh my rig was sending
as i monitored it frequently with a handy, no probs there and suddenly the
ISS started to respond. Voila!

But its all experimentation. G1LEV claims his best path mobile is :cq v
aprs,trace3-3 but then he is in a very saturated area of packet activity,
asking his advice he recommended cq v aprs,trace7-6 well i tried that
today but forget to set my home station to path :cq v aprs,trace7-6,i
(i=Inet) so it was a wasted three hours as no-one picked up my TT3+ sigs
at 5w out into a magmount co=linear on car roof. Oh it were sending ok
but....?

Now working on the bench ive found my faults and have amended the tnc in
my ts2k to read path aprs,trace7-6,i: this has had the effect of picking
up the TT3+ transmission beacon and passing it onto the Inet. But working
on bench and working mobile are two different fields. With no packet
stations within 200sq miles i dont know hy i bother, however my secondary
path is Wide7-6 which is an alias for ariss. Much of my guidance comes
from those like www.byonics.com and www.ariss.net and to think two years
ago i thought it was just a position reporting service.

I was privileged recently to recommend the APRS to a captain in the P&O
fleet, pointing out all the positive advantages. Real-time comms and voice
alert on ctcss for those on the long road. As can be seen im just a Ham on
a learning curve and to those who did what i did when i first looked at
UI-View32 yuk its just a sneaky way of finding out where you are at any
given time of the day - WRONG!

Using the correct path it has for us saved both us lives. Please SP me if
you have any queries or suggestions, thanks.
