Hello again History buffs, and historical whatver-types.,

In Europe the War of 1812 can only be remembered as the war against
Napoleon, ending of course at Waterloo, when surprise an "AllIed Army"
stopped him., But for those in North America, it was the USA declaring
War on England, thinking while it was concerned more with Napoleon
it could via this war take CANADA away from British control and
under American control.

No doubt , one can read all the stuff over this war, and the opposition
by Americans in the northern states < New England > to President Monroe
carrying out this plan. There is lots to the story , in the USA, and
worth reading if you are interested. Many are not.

The Big deal, is in the US, they claim they won the war .... duh...so
does the Canadians, and in Britain they couldn't care less, as they
loss Admiral Nelson, but celebrated the end of the war of 1812 with
the final defeat of Napoleon, without a thought of US invasions into
CANADA and vica versa.

What has bothered me, and now has been revealed, by accident as
I was reading about it, was the story of Mr. David Parish, who
lived in New York state in an area shared with Canadians called
the St Lawrence River Valley.

Mr Parish was rich. He got the whole area declared a neutral area
and a historian has uncovered letters from British Officers, about
no more attacks in that area, as well from the US Government. He sweetened
the pie by funding the US Government, when it needed the money.

Based upon these findings, one can only guess why obvious plans were
never done. All fighting was kept to the westend of Lake Ontario,
or most of it. Even there, some strange things happened, so the
most unpopular war to Americans and Canadians has lots of twists.

  Oh well .... 73 Pete VE3WBZ < ex-crew USS Rattlesnake >
