Hello all,
due to the war in Ukraine / Europe , I have been working a bit more
intensively with Winlink and Vara Modem HF.
In general, I can only recommend everyone, even if only for longer power
outages or extreme weather situations, to deal with Winlink.
In case of an emergency, it is possibly the only possibility to exchange
messages very effectively and clearly across the country's borders. A mail
with a text of a fully written page is transmitted over short wave in less
than 2-3 minutes. Small attachments are also possible.
Another very useful feature is to transmit its position within 1-2 minutes,
this can be done without GPS on the PC, provided that the coordinates are
known.
This can be set at GPS / Position Report.

Top left, after transmission enter the call sign youŽd like to find.
I find, these are 2 features, which JS8CALL and other cannot offer, certainly
not in the speed. VARA HF in the licensed version is really a real hit, no
comparison to the free version.
There are also a huge count of gateways to deliver or receive your message
around the world on any ham frequencies!
So, if you would like to have something in your hand that makes you a little
bit more independent for messages exchange in emergency, i recommend strongly
to take a look.
