Hi Ian and all,
Slight error in logic there Ian, the greater the conductivity of the
fluid the greater the current flowing through it and not around it.
Perhaps you missed the bit about later discoveries in the Thames where
they found the Earth was conducting far greater current than the water
thus short circuiting earlier attempts at measuring it. This is why the
Russian scientist is using liquid sodium, metal is more conductive.
Magnetic domains complicated? Well, a recording engineer doesn't have to
understand physics to lay down tracks on tape or HD. (;->)
Eh, water is a semiconductor when you get down to it, vary the level of
impurity and you vary the conductivity, prove it with an ohm meter. Oh
'scuse me, prove it with a mu meter and I'm not trying to be funny this
time. I was going nuts trying to figure out what was wrong with a solid
state circuit when an ohm meter said it had identical caracteristics to a
working model. It wasn't until I noticed the mu scale and probed it
again, THEN the fault became crystal.
I leave you with this thought, germanium and silicon are thought to be
metals but no, they're non conductive until doped. Here's another one,
the KGB is a pussycat, the GRU is to be feared... and they don't knock.
