Pete reminded me of something when he mentioned Hydro Electric power. Yes
we have had that in the UK for years as well but a memory popped into my
mind when I read it.
Back when people were discussing various forms of Alternative Energy
generation, along with solar, wind and wave was Magneto Hydro Dynamics or
MHD for short.

I do know that experiments were carried out but noone ever explained the
drawbacks of it.

On the face of it, a form of electricity generation using rivers but with
no moving parts would appear to be an ideal yet I know of no country which
has adopted MHD.

I am not going to explain how it works as I am sure I would be walking
into a barrage of insulting replies all querying my intelligence and
sanity, especially after checking on the 'net.
There was no internet back then so I couldn't check it out, I had to make
do with TV programmes and articles in The New Scientist.

So, why no MHD? What were the drawbacks ?
