Odd you should mention Jewish. My memory suggests the guy I made mention of
also had a Jewish look to him, but it cannot have been the same person - due
to the time clash. He occupied the Leeds shop from at latest 1958 on.
The shop he had was close to Leeds centre and was demolished long ago
(1969-ish), located bordering on or maybe part of the Tetley Brewary site. The
shop was desperately run down, packed with old radios, TV's, general tat and
ex-mil stuff - barely room for a customer to get in. He used to test the odd
valve for me and never charged me - I always felt compelled to buy something,
but as he never marked anything up and so little could be seen, I don't think
I ever did.
The next thing I heard was that another shop had been opened, on one of the
streets alongside Leeds Market, but was being run by the son (Michelle). The
son knew not very much about electronics and the shop gradually drifted over
to selling toys, ornaments and maybe second hand vacs. The condition of the
shop deteriorated rapidly (not that is had been impresive to start with) and
eventually was rarely open, then shut up completely.
