I bought a watch a few days ago. Brand name Lorus, cost $A69. On the back
is the statement "Cased in China." I guess that means the Chinese import
the movements and produce a watch?
A couple of weeks ago I bought a cheap watch in a gift pack from a Red
Dot store (discount store). It had the watch, a pocket knife with all
sorts of gadgets on it and a very nice looking key ring with a
whatyoumaycallit pendant. $10!. Bargain! The watch lasted a week and the
battery went flat. I put in a new battery and then the hour hand came
loose. I turfed it and bought the $69 one. Oh well! At least I have a
brand new pocket knife and a key ring.
BTW "To "turf" means to throw out. But you knew that of course.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.

>Germany. Quite often things are made elsewhere in some out of the way
factory and branded with the name of what has become a distributor, it's
called outsourcing. You have to look carefully for the "made in" tag to
see where it is actually made, could be China, Mexico, Indonesia,
anywhere.
