Hi every one,

RE: Charging voltage for 12 volt batteries

If you remember some time ago I asked about the best voltage to charge a
12 volt battery? Well at long last I found out the information. Knowing
you would possibly be interested in the correct way to use batteries I
though I would send out a bulletin. I have included the URLs below at the
bottom.

So that old 12 volt battery is not such a simple beast when you really get
into the subject. Taking the proper care will give you years of extra life
from your purchase and you can "yak-yak-yak" on the air for hours extra
for many years as possible, enjoy.

To those who did the "put down" on me, well read on and save cash in the
long run. (Go on Mel, how's the boat?)

Well know you are as wise as I am. Please remember to put the entire web
URL in your browser as wrap-around can truncate the URL.

My solar power station is running well. The 110 amp-hour battery is full
of charge ready for the weekend most weeks. If I am short of sunshine
power then I flick the switch on the mains half of the charger on the
night time rate (half price). For high power pulses I found that the
connection of four 180,000uF caps helped with the voltage dips (i.e. SSB
transmitter). The "Cap-bank" generally made the "system" hold up between
half and one volt higher on peaks of pulse loads. However make sure the
cables are very thick as well.

Now all I need is to load up the car and crawl up a local high spot for
portable work.
