Interestingly, though, most of all it shows how people don't think.
So many believe that the RF from a cellphone tower two blocks away (which
puts out, what, power in the order of 10-20W on average?) is a health
hazard, but at the same time they have a microwave oven in the kitchen
that puts out a constant 1kW CW carrier which is MOSTLY but not entirely
absorbed by the TV dinner or whatever's inside... but if the average uWave
oven leaks, say, one tenth of 1 percent of the RF power generated, and so
many (including me!) are in the habit of looking through the window in the
door to see what's happening inside at, say, 20cm distance... While a
microwave's magnetron puts out a solid carrier while cellphone signals are
pulsed with a low duty cycle... it's obvious you get A LOT more RF
exposure from microwaving yesterday's leftovers than from a whole bunch of
cellphone towers.
That's of course apart from the fact that acutally _using_ a cellphone
amounts to strapping a transmitter with antenna system right to your
head...
