As usual John G8MNY has sent a useful, well illustrated bull.

I am not a nit picker but am slightly annoyed by the late or early
starting of TV programmes especially on DTV.

Currently, I am recording the reruns of I Claudius, 12 episodes, mainly 50
mins long. 4 per 2HR DVD.

Sounds easy but I have found that I sometimes get up to 2 mins off the
preceding programme and a corresponding loss off the end. Worst case, Or
vice versa.Best case.

Even when the now & next display shows it is well past the start time of a
programme, it is often showing the end of the programme before.

Perhaps it's deliberate to make you watch the adverts.

That is why I asked once about the clocks, controlled by a radio sync
pulse but the BBC analogue timer is very accurate so one would be surplus
to requirements. I suppose the poor timing is just something we have to
put up with.

p.s. I am trying to overcome the agony of paying out UKP 99.99 for a twin
tuner, 80GB HDD set top box from Argos. The prices don't seem to be
dropping. At least I'll be able to record, edit & copy from the HDD.

My VCR picks up the exact time from BBC 1, winter Hill main Tx. So it is
accurate. I use it's displayed time to set the TV and DVD RW. I do my
watch and all the clocks as well,
