I use Windows XP with SP2 here, and it is vice versa: COLOURS.EXE runs 
without any real problems in a DOS window.
COLOUR-G.EXE however starts in full screen only, does not react on any key 
stroke, not even alt-x. So you have to force it to an end.
Also COLOURS.EXE will not work after start-up when executed from a fullscreen
DOS window or stop working when the DOS window is made fullscreen.

Also on running COLOURS.EXE only the keys F and B have a visible effect.
Page Up/down and cursor keys do change the displayed numbers only, but not the
colours in any way...
